Starting the server application and stopping the server application from the client application

Hi ,

How do I do it ?

I want to start the server application from my client app. After all my jobs
are over , when I disconnect from the server,
I want to close the server application. Both the client and server
applications will be running on the desktop under NT or win95
environment.

If the client app is abc.exe and
  the server app is pqr.exe

when the user starts the client app from his desktop, the client should
start pqr.exe .
Now after finishing all the process when the user closes the client, I want
to disconnect from server and close the server pqr
then close abc. I am able to start the server app pqr by run() function.
But How do I close it ?

I tried to call a function from client to server , which tries to close the
server window. Does not work. May be I don't know
how to do hat. Can I get any help here ?

I am using Powerbuilder 6.5 in NT environment.

Thanks

First question. Why are you having the client and server run on the same
machine?

If you are using NT you can run as a NT Service and issue a NET Start and
NET Stop.

Hello all,i have some trivial questions.can any one answer  the followingWhat is the difference between a client-server application and a web application ?what is the difference ,if any, between a virtual directory and web application.thanx Hi, and welcome to the asp.net forums.to start off, a client-server app is any application that interacts with a server, such as a windows form app that runs off of data stored in a database on a web server. A web app on the otherhand, is a "program" that may or may not contain server-side code, but it is an app that outputs html to be viewed thro...

Application to Application
Hi,  Curious on what different solutions there are for one application that is closing down to contact another application. I have the closing down applicaton sending something to the database and for the other application to monitor the database records, but I think that is a horrible solution. Another idea would be when the closing down application sends a message to the database for the database to then respond by sending a message to the other application, but that means the database would have to know where the other application is.  If possible, the security issue mak...

Hello All, I have a few questions: - Is it possible to use Java Web Start with the functionality of an application server. Can I have the started Java program to use components from the application server? - How can I make sure a client can start a Java application (not an applet) from an application server and have it running on its own without using Java Web Start. Client/Server and Distributed Applications
Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions/experiences/approaches with developing an application that has the capacity of being a standalone application as well as being a distributed application (with Jaguar) when required ? The product that I am trying to architect will be required to be shipped to small customer sites of 1 staff up to larger sites with several staff. Ideally, I would like to develop 1 application that may automatically detect that Jaguar is there and do all the necessary steps to use it, otherwise it would operate as a standalone application. Any comments most we...

Transforming a Windows application to a server application
Hi! Delphi 7, Win XP. I have a Windows application consisting of a main form (the VCL main thread) and a separate thread (a descendant of TThread naturally) that performes the actual job. Let's call it a "worker thread" here. The "worker thread" uses "wait" functions (e.g. ConnectNamedPipe) that means that this "worker thread" gets suspended now and then for an undefined period of time waiting for connections from clients. This is the main reason for using a separate thread in the first place. The main window has to be responsive...
