Trying to find what is the supported upgrade path for the above. Going from
12.0/64bit on AIX 4.3.3 to 12.5 (or 12.5.x) 64bit on AIX 5.2.
If I put AIX 5.2 , the dataserver binary of 12.0 will not work which is used
during the upgrade.
If I put 12.5.x on 4.3.3, the dataserver binary will not work beacuse it is
new binary for 5.2.
Other than backup the databases and load them to the new server, is there a
supported how to upgrade?
...Upgrading from ASE (32-bit) 18.104.22.168 on Solaris 2.8 64-bit to ASE(64-bit) 12.5.1 on Solaris 64-bit
We are planning to upgrade our ASE servers from a 32-bit ASE 22.214.171.124 to
64-bit ASE 12.5.1 on Solaris 8. Could you please give what are the steps to
be taken care and how do I start with ( Do I have to first upgrade to
32-bit12.5.1 and then upgrade to 64-bit ASE 12.5.1, or directly upgrade from
32-bit 126.96.36.199 to 64-bit 12.5.1 ?).
Could you also please point to some documentation (about upgrading 32-bit
188.8.131.52 to 64-bit 12.5.1).
...Migration from ASE 12.5.3 (Win 32bit) to ASE 15.0.2 (Unix 64 bit) question
I would like to migrate an ASE 12.5.3 on a Microsoft 32-bit

What steps must I follow?
Is it a good idea to use a Replication Server 15 as

With ASE 12.5.3 you're suppose to be able to perform cross platform dump-n-loads (XPDL), where 'cross platform'
basically means different OS's and/or different endian hardware. This (obviously?) assumes you'll be using ...Logins + passwords when migrating from ASE 12.5.4/Linux x86 32bit to ASE 15.0.3/Solaris SPARC 64bit
I'd like to migrate one of our databases from ASE 12.5.4 to ASE 15. Source server is running on Linux x86 32bit, target server is Solaris SPARC 64bit. Cross-plattform dump and load works fine.
The problem arises with logins/passwords. I've copied the contents of syslogins from the old server to the new one, but I can't log in using one of the manually migrated logins.
Checking syslogins, I noticed that the password hashes on ASE 15 look different. Old hashes are just 60 characters long, the new ones 84 characters.

You can't setup a "remote server" to anything other than another ASE, ECDA,
or any other open server product. In order to connect to an ODBC target,
your only option is ECDA.

...Dump/Load (from ASE 12.5.4 to ASE 15.x) - VS.
We are in the process of planning the upgrade of our ASE
12.5.4 dataservers to ASE 15.x. What is the most
recommended way to upgrade ASE dataservers from ASE 12.5.4
to ASE 15.x?
1) Install new instances of ASE 15.x and load database
dumps from our ASE 12.5.4 dataservers to the newly installed
ASE 15.x dataservers.

2) Use the ASE upgrade utility (sqlupgrade) to upgrade our
existing ASE 12.5.4 dataservers to ASE 15.x.

Pundits one and all,
We are looking closely at migrating from ASE 184.108.40.206 ESD#2 32 bit on a
Solaris platform to 64 bit ASE. Notwithstanding improvements in ASE 12.5
that may benefit us, the main driver is to take maximum advantage of the 16G
physical memory on the host.
Simplistically we could either ...
a) convert to 64 bit ASE 12.0 (as phase 1), then convert to ASE 12.5 64 bit
(as phase 2) at a later date, or
b) convert to 32 bit ASE 12.5 (as phase 1), then convert at 64 bit after
gaining confidence in the version change,
c) convert to 64 bit ASE 12.5 in one fell swoop to m...Same machine: ASE 12.5.3 Linux vs ASE 12.5.3 Windows
We had a report from one of our clients recently that our Sybase ASE-based
app was running slowly on their new Linux box. As we develop internally
against ASE on Windows we thought it would be an interesting test to install
both the Windows and Linux flavors of ASE 12.5.3 onto the same server and
look at the relative performance.
We used a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with 2 x Intel Xeon 3.73GHz dual core
On one drive we put SuSE Enterprise Linux Server 10 x86-64, and on the other
we put Windows Server 2003 Std R2 64-bit edition. Both were fresh-off-the-CD
...Table View / ASE 12.5.4, ASE 15.0.2
I have installed the Sybase OCS 15.02 over 12.5.4 and have copied the DLL's
as advised by sybase.
However, when I try to open a table in an ASE 15 database in Powerbuilder
(or Infomaker), the following error is displayed.
ct_fetch(): user api layer : internal common library error: The bind of
result set item 4 failed due to a syntax error in the source data.
I can see the table columns thereafter, but other information such as
indices etc is not available.
Somehow there is clash between 12.5.4 and 15.02.
Does anyone know a solution ?
Thanks in advance
