ASE patch 12.5.0.3 ebf10980 but still meet "kernel timeslice -501, current process infected" error!

Hi all,
       kernel: 2.4.9-e.9,glibc:2.2.4-29.1,ASE 12.5.0.3 EBF10980. When ct try
to create a talbe,
dataserver meet "kernel timeslice -501, current process infected", and all
the client cannot connect to server . I had ask ct to add -T1639 traceflag
and increase 'cpu grace time' parameter. But the problem cannot be resolved.
Any help will be appreciated

Hi Yu,

Which distribution are you using? The reason why I ask is that some of
them have distribution-specific patches applied to the glibc and kernel.
Redhat 9 is good example of a distribution specific glibc that breaks the
posix threads & async i/o.

We at Sybase has seen a spate of Tech. Support calls on timeslice
errors. Everyone of them is due to wrong usage of devices. All
of them used the block or raw device of lvm or DASD without
binding it thro' the linux rawdevice interface.

"Infected with 8" on Tru64 V5.1 (ASE 12.5.0.3)
If after upgrading to 12.5.0.3 - EFT 10978 - you get a bunch of transactions aborted due to "infected with 8" errors (floating point exception), you must install Tru64 Kit 2 patch to fix problems in the OS floating point libraries. It tooks us two weeks of work with Sybase tech support to learn that. -- Posted via http://dbforums.com ...

ASE 12.0.0.4 Error 2628 then timeslice current process infected
Have any ASE 12.5.x sites observed Error: 2628 Sev: 21 State: 3 (page n is linked forward to page x, but that page is linked backward to page y) followed by timeslice -1501 current process is infected? This was apparently observed in 11.9.2 per Case Id:10799223 - but has any attempt been made to fix it? Its not clear to me if the case is open or closed! If it does not manifest in ASE 12.5, I might start a putsch to upgrade to try and get out of this bind (the server chokes in a big way and the SHTF). All comments gratefully received. Cheers Frank. ...

Same machine: ASE 12.5.3 Linux vs ASE 12.5.3 Windows
We had a report from one of our clients recently that our Sybase ASE-based app was running slowly on their new Linux box. As we develop internally against ASE on Windows we thought it would be an interesting test to install both the Windows and Linux flavors of ASE 12.5.3 onto the same server and look at the relative performance. We used a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with 2 x Intel Xeon 3.73GHz dual core processors. On one drive we put SuSE Enterprise Linux Server 10 x86-64, and on the other we put Windows Server 2003 Std R2 64-bit edition. Both were fresh-off-the-CD OS installs. ...

Hello, I have running an ASE 12.5.0.3 and a RepServer 12.5 on the same box. After upgrading the ASE to 12.5.2 EBF11942 the RepServer doesn't start anymore. ASE 12.5.2 to ASE 12.5.0.3
Hello, I have to return to ASE 12.5.0.3 from ASE 12.5.2. I created a new server and did a dump/load of a user database and that seems to be fine. Is this a safe way to downgrade ? Is it necessary to create a new server (master database) or should it also be possible to shutdown the 12.5.2 server and start it again with the 12.5.0.3 binary ? Thanks, Luc. ...

Upgrade ASE 12.0/64 bit on AIX 4.3.3 to ASE 12.5.x/64 bit on AIX 5.2
Trying to find what is the supported upgrade path for the above. Going from 12.0/64bit on AIX 4.3.3 to 12.5 (or 12.5.x) 64bit on AIX 5.2. If I put AIX 5.2 , the dataserver binary of 12.0 will not work which is used during the upgrade. If I put 12.5.x on 4.3.3, the dataserver binary will not work beacuse it is new binary for 5.2. Other than backup the databases and load them to the new server, is there a supported how to upgrade? Thanks! ...

ASE 12.5.0.3 to ASE 12.5.4 upgrade path
I would like to know if the migration from ASE 12.5.0.3 to 12.5.4 a direct migration or is there an intermediate upgrade to be performed in between? Take a look at the release bulletins and installation guides for your platform. These are the first steps to any upgrade. http://sybooks.sybase.com/nav/detail.do?docset=1287 <passerby> wrote in message news:484e9ca8.3f0d.1681692777@sybase.com... >I would like to know if the migration from ASE 12.5.0.3 to > 12.5.4 a direct migration or is there an intermediate > upgrade to be performed in between? ...

Repost: "sybinit4ever" supports Linux and ASE 12.0
"Sybinit4ever" has been updated to support ASE 12.0 as well as ASE 11.9.2 on Linux; the latest version (version 0.5) can be downloaded from http://www.euronet.nl/~syp_rob/download.html Short background: "sybinit4ever" is a free tool which allows you to create a new ASE server in ASE 11.9.2 using an ASCII-interface, so that you don't need X-Windows. In version 11.0.x, the "sybinit" utility existed to do this, but this has unfortunately disappeared in ASE 11.5 and later.
