For drag & drop to another application you have to implement OLE
drag&drop. Delphi has no support for that natively, but there are free
(and not so free) 3rd-party offerings.

  http://www.melander.dk ( http://users.on.net/johnson/delphi/ as
alternative)
  http://codecentral.borland.com/codecentral/ccweb.exe/listing?id=14069
  http://www.wideman-one.com/gw/tech/Delphi/dragdrop/
  OLE Drag and Drop Components
    http://www.unitoops.com/
    http://www.raize.com
    http://angusj.com/delphi/

Some of these links may even still work <G>.

I though what you wanted was to select some text in your application
and let the user drag it to an email editor window in Thunderbird. It
looks like you are after something else, though.

I cannot help you with that, sorry. You need to implement the drop side
of OLE drag&drop for your application as a start (which I have
experience with at all), but it then all depends on what data formats
Thunderbird makes available to the drop client.

Google for IDropTarget + Delphi, that may turn up some sample code.
Don't forget to search in the newsgroup archives (see my signature) as
well.

Don't bother using any Drag & Drop compnents, *they won't work. Currently it is impossible* as Thunderbird does not allow the draging of emails outside the app. It has been proposed to do this and all your application will have to do is accept an .eml or .mbox file (whichever they decide to choose). All you need to do is vote for the implementation at:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=227305

Your delphi app will only have to accept drag & drop files if they do this.

Hi ! I have speed troubles for using Text.Write method in Delphi 2006, particularly with distant files (local network). Drag-n-Drop in Delphi applications?
Just how valuable is offering drag-n-drop in your apps? I think I'm seeing a pattern where users get frustrated with drag-n-drop more than they get benefits. I have been using computers for 20 years and I still on occasion drop something where I didn't want to. Some times I don't even know where it went because I was looking at the drop target instead of the item that I accidently dropped onto. Also, you must have the drag source and drop target in view at the same time or else you end up holding the dragged item while the auto-scroll slowly brings into view the drop target. ...

How do I drag and drop text using Delphi 2006?
I am trying to learn how to do drag and drop with Delphi 2006. I have come across examples on how to do this with objects, but I'm interested in only dragging and dropping text. I would like to be able to accomplish the following: * Select text in one DBEdit box and drag (move or copy using control and shift keys) to another DBEdit box * Select text from a webpage and drag it into a DBEdit box I understand that these two operations are pretty different (the second needs to be done with COM). Can anyone help me with this by pointing me to an online article or component? I ha...

Dragging and dropping a .WAV from Delphi App to other apps
Is there an easy way to drag a .WAV file from a Delphi 2006 App to another app. It's not from a listbox or anything like that. It's from a custom window. My code would need to be responsible for generating a .WAV file based on where the person initially clicked on a window. Is the only way to drop a file from a Delphi 2006 to use complicated COM routines? If so, then would the other app that receives the file need complicated com routines too, or would it work with any app that could accept a the same dropped file type from Explorer? Thanks. Delphi and virus, or virus and Delphi.
Hi all. There is some discussion about a 'new' virus, that targets Delphi (and developers). The article is in danish: <http://www.version2.dk/artikel/11833-delphi-udviklere-jages-af-ny-type-malware> but refers to this article: <http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-10312628-245.html> From the Danish article POV, it seems like Delphi itself is vunerable, which is not true. As far as i can see, is the attack vector, injection of (source) code in the 'Sysconst' unit. What's going on? -- Best regards Stig Johansen Perhaps checking other thre...

Delphi for PHP or Delphi PRISM
Hi, I have the opportunity to develop a web-based library management system. Nothing fancy, just being able to do the usual CRUD stuff for books and provide a search facility. Borrowing is to be done via an email request to the library admin who then sends out the book(s). Since both Delphi for PHP and Delphi PRISM will enable me to develop the app, which one will allow me to deliver it in less time and also increase (even how small) my marketability as a web developer?
