[wxperl-users] Again... Win XP look with wx 2.5.2

Hello,

I'm running wxWidgets 2.5.2 with wxperl-0.19 under Win32 (windows XP
SP1), Perl 5.8.4 from Activestate.
The application is transformed to a single executable file with PAR and pp.

=> I would like to get the Windows XP look for my application.

The wxperl documentation gives me this:

 > For standalone (packed using PAR, Perl2Exe, Perl2App, ...) applications
 > to get Windows XP look, a file named "App.exe.manifest" (assuming the
 > program is named "App.exe") and containing the text below must be placed
 > in the same directory as the executable file.

I created this file, but there are no effect. I still have the standard
win95 look.

Anybody knows what I should do?

Thanks,
Olivier.

Hi Olivier,

I am sorry if my question sounds silly. Does your App.exe.manifest file
have content?
I use this content for my App.exe.manifest file, it's from WxPerl
maliling list archive.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
  <assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
      <assemblyIdentity
          processorArchitecture="x86"
          version="5.1.0.0"
          type="win32"
          name="Controls"
      />
      <description>Super wxPerl Application</description>
      <dependency>
          <dependentAssembly>
              <assemblyIdentity
                  type="win32"
                  name="Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"
                  version="6.0.0.0"
                  publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1df"
                  language="*"
                  processorArchitecture="x86"
          />
      </dependentAssembly>
      </dependency>
  </assembly>

Thanks for answering. My exe is named esi.exe and I have an
esi.exe.manifest file in the same directory that contains exactly what
you suggested.
I saw that in wxwidgets 2.5 and later, there will be no need to have
this manifest file anymore, as long as wx.rc is included.
http://www.wxwindows.org/faqmsw.htm#winxp

But I don't know how to do that.

What version of wxwidgets are you using?

Olivier.

Hello Olivier,

I am using version 2.4.2 (if I recall correctly).

I tried to use PAR, and I got no luck too. The GUI shows old Win9x style.
I always use Perl2exe to make an .exe file from my source code and it
works perfectly.
I am sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Regards,
bungsu

Thanks anyway. I would like to use PAR because it's free :)

Anyway, even without any binary conversion, just launching the .pl file,
it should work, right?

Olivier.

Yup, in my computer if I run the .pl file directly, it shows WindowsXP
style, but after I make an .exe using PAR, it shows old win9x style.

It was not on mine, but I finally got it working ! I had to create a
perl.exe.manifest in my perl installation directory (\perl\bin\).
It's working with winXP look (for Wxperl with 2.4.2 AND 2.5.2) when I
run my program (App.pl).
Not yet there with the "exe" version. I'll keep you posted.

Olivier.

[wxperl-users] wxPerl-0.20 Source Build on OSX.3.5/wxPython 2.5.2.7
I've just built wxPerl 0.20 as indicated in the subject, and I had a few issues: First, the syntax for wx-config used in Any_wx_config.pm::get_core_libs_25 seems to have changed: Instead of "--libs=list" it's now "--libs list". Next, Makemaker is building the root Makefile with both blibdirs: and blibdirs::. That produces an error. Changing the single colon to a double colon fixes the problem, but it has to be done every time one runs Makefile.PL. I couldn't figure out where to fix it in the MakeMaker files. Last, could you take out the...

[wxperl-users] Compiling Wx-0.20 with wxWidgets-2.5.2 on Windows
I'm trying to compile Wx-0.20 using wxWidgets 2.5.2 on Windows 2000, using VC6. Makefile.PL complains about "no such lib 'adv' at c:/Wx/build/Wx/build/Config/Win32_MSVC.pm line 97.". I remember there was such a lib in 2.4, but it is (I think) gone in 2.5. Is there something I can do to trick Makefile.PL into continuing anyway?
