SLES11 Samba home directory user shares

I am having an odd issue with Samba on SLES11. I have the server joined
to AD. Winbind, Kerberos, etc. all functioning, no major error
conditions. AD users and groups enumerate. Extended ACL support is on
for the mount point. Posix rights assigned to users and groups that the
AD users are in. They can see their shares in Windows but cannot access
the files.

Looking at the various Samba logs, it looks like Samba is trying to
enumerate the share name as though it were a user name.

Where are the config files for the user shares stored on SLES11? These
shares are not listed at all in the smb.conf file or any other files in
the /etc/samba directory.

In smb.conf there is an entry for template home directory set to
/home/%U -is it possibly looking at the share name that was assigned to
the user home directory (which was changed from the default user name)
and trying to enumerate a user name based on the share name for some
ungodly reason, instead of looking at the posix ACLs?

Without knowing where these share configs are stored, it's hard to
tell. None of the usual Samba commands show these shares, either, but
they are there. They were set up through the Nautilus properties
extension that gets installed with Samba... and I am having no luck
looking at the Samba documentation, so I've come to the conlcusion that
this is an SLES thing...

I saw this in a sample smb.conf file:

# template homedir determines the home directory for winbind users,
# with %D expanding to their domain name and %U expanding to their
# username:
; template homedir = /home/%D/%U

Also, do you have the [homes] section defined in smb.conf?

Creating a user directory other than home directory
Hey there, I have a two-fold problem. I have JRB utilities but I can not see how to make this work. We created a directory in the users home directory. We want to move all these directories out into another main directory and have the same file rights. Plus, when we add new users, we want this directory to be created automatically. Each teacher has a directory called GQWIN in their home directory. This is their gradebook. We want to move all of the teachers gradebooks into one central "Gradebook" directory, then their username, then the GQWIN directory. Curren...

Active Directory user home directory
Hi all. I have a question, how to sync home directorires of users from Identity Vault to Active Directory? Into AD there are 2 LDAP attributes calleds homeDrive (the network drive letter) and homeDirectory that is the network path used to map during user login. My doubt is about the eDirectory volume information. The volume will be not sync to the AD because AD does not recognize this information, right? So, how to sync? I was thinking about create 2 eDirectory attributes where I can write theese informations. What do you think about this? Anyone can help me? Best regards...

Create Directory in Users Home Directory
Hello I was wondering if there was an easy way of creating a directory and coping a file to it in each users home directory, using the login script? Could I just run a batch file like this: @echo off dir F:\homedir\test\test.file 1>2> nul if errorlevel=1 goto test goto end :test mkdir f:\homedir\test xcopy f:\test\test.file f:\homedir\test goto end :end Or is there an easier way? User's home directory saved in Samba server not locally
Hi guys, Continuing with my assigned task of migrating the company's PCs to GNU/Linux ('openSUSE as server for GNU/Linux clients' (http://tinyurl.com/5sqzjl7)) I managed to set up a DC with roaming profiles for the few remaining Windows users, user validation and login for the openSUSE boxes and a few network shares with different rights. I know there are no roaming profiles for GNU/Linux and I can live with that but I would like to specify wich users/groups would have their home directories saved locally (notebook users) and which will save them on the Samba server...

Roaming user profile in users home directory
Hi, hope you can help out... When a user logs in to NetWare, the %home_directory is mapped to <volume>:USER\<username> on the NetWare server. Roaming profile is enabled via a NDS user package, to store the user profile in user home directory. User profile should be copied to the local workstation upon login and copied back to the server upon logout. There are space restrictions on the users home directories. We found that some users home directory is full, but they are not getting any error when they log out. Only that the user profile, e.g., USER.DAT or items...

Lost user login and user home directories
I have lost the ability to login into my OS 11.1 system with any of my defined user logins. The system returns: "Cannot enter home directory. Using /" If I 'OK' this, the next message (in a sort of DOS box) is: "kstartupconfig4 does not exist or fails; the error code is 3. Check your installation" If I OK this then I am represented with the original user logon panel. This sequence is the same for all the users defined on the system I can login as root. When I do so I notice that there are no user directories under /home Is this recoverable?...

Automatically make directories in user's home directory
How can I do this? Basically I want the equivalent of /etc/skel on linux to happen on my netware box. Specifically what I am wanting is a Favorites folder and a Desktop folder made in their home directory so I can use folder redirection to point those portions of their profiles to there. I do not want to hand make these folders in every new user's home directory. Thanks! Adam I see that those mirectories are made automatically. Although I would still be interested to know if there is some way to do an equivalent to /etc/skel because I can see that being usefull. T...

User Home directory
Very strange situation. Hope I am missing something simple... Home directory public_html folders are working for all users in Teachers container. Also working for most users in Staff container. However, several public_html for users in Staff container are not working. If I move the user objects to Teacher container (leaving directories where they are) they work! What should I be looking at? LDAP, Public trustee rights, something else? Thanks in advance... Additional info... The affected users also have a workstation object with the same name... So it appears that Netware is searching ...

SAMBA and home directories
Based on the OES docs, I understand that for Edir users to access Linux SAMBA shares, they must be LUM enabled. Then, in addition, you must log in as each user to create their home directory. Logging in for each user doesn't seem very realistic if I've got 100 users that I'm allowing in. Any know if I can: 1. Just create the folders manually? 2. Create the folders, and set file permissions? I also really don't understand why the home directory is a requirement at all. What's up with that? -- Byron Wright Byron Wright wrote: > Based on the OE...

User home directories
I just upgraded from NW5.1sp6 to NW6.5sp1. The one problem I can't seem to get past is to get user home directories enabled on apache2. I have created a user named hdiruser. Assigned the 3 attributes to the parent container, and followed the rest of the Novell docs. Attached is my httpd.conf. Any help is appreciated. Users home directory
We are runnning NW 6.5 sp 2. I have a user that suddenly cannot save into their home directory. It appears like the action of saving is taking place, but when the user goes to open the file - the file is not there. In fact, all files are gone. If I open ConsoleOne, and go under the server to the user home directory I can see the files/folders that they had previously in their account. If I try to view them through Windows Explorer, the folder appears to be blank - the files are not hidden. We have had a few users experience this problem - but their data has not been crucial n...

User home directories
Trying to get user home directories (on different server to the Apache server) working. Currently testing using a public_html folder in my own user directory Environment is NW6.5 SP1a, Apache2.0.48. On a couple of occasions it has worked and pulled up the contents of my index.htm file but the numerous other attempts it's failed (Object not found error). This seems totally random to me! Have set Apache to debug. Here's the contents of error log and mod_eDir directives. [Fri May 28 10:42:56 2004] [notice] LDAP: Built with Novell LDAP SDK [Fri May 28 10:42:56 2004] [not...
