SLES 11 Cron jobs

SLES 11 now uses a run-crons script in the crontab file which runs every
15 minutes and checks the normal cron.daily etc folders.

I need to run a script every 5 minutes.

I've add a line about the run-crons to run a script every 5 minutes but
it is not firing.

What is the proper procedure for this in SLES 11?

If it is for your own user just edit your own crontab. If it is for the
root user edit that user's crontab or the system crontab at /etc/crontab
with the following or something equivalent (this example is for your own
user or the root user's crontab... not the /etc/crontab file; there is a
difference):

*/5 * * * * /path/to/your/script.sh

Good luck.

Look in /var/log/messages for any messages regarding it being started.
Also did you restart your /etc/init.d/cron service? I know you do not
need to do this when modifying a user's crontab (`crontab -e username`)
but I am not sure where /etc/crontab is simply a file with configuration
information in it. If you did not start it that may be worth a try as well:

sudo /etc/init.d/cron restart

Good luck.

Can you post us the /etc/crontab ?
Make sure that you need to have in the sixth column of the crontab
entry the username under which that cron job get's started:

Your script is marked to be executable ?
