Win7, lgncxw32 LDAP Contextless Login: No LDAP server spec

I work for a school board in Ontario, and we are putting in 600 Windows
7 workstations this summer. We are having problems getting ldap to work.
We have been using the lgncl.zip files from cool solutions to get
contextless login to work on our WinXP machines. That doesnt work on
the Win7 machines.

On the LDAP contextless login tab we have put in about 7 server and
tree ip addresses with the defaults. We created a reg file that we
change on the image depending on which school server we want to login to
(different trees as we are a rural school board - just the way it was
setup years ago).

On the server side, we created a user called LDAPUser and made it a
trustee of the main o and the next ou under that. Added that ldapuser as
a proxy user for the LDAP group object.

We arent sure if it is a server problem or a client problem -- we can
login to some servers where we have setup LDAP the exact same way. Again
these servers are in different trees. Each school has its own tree with
the school server in it. So we had to setup LDAP on each server at each
school.

The error we are getting on some server logins is

lgncxw32
LDAP Contextless Login: No LDAP server specified

Create LDAPUser (no rights to anything) and made it a trustee of main O
and OU below that where the server object resides -- just default rights
were given when we made it a trustee (and they are the same as the other
servers where ldap is working).

LDAP group object added LDAPUser user as the proxy user for the LDAP
group object.

I believe that was all we did on the server side at each school.

On the client side we added the tree and server ip address for each
school server that we needed to login to.

We also have ZFD 6.5 client on the machines as well as ZAM 10.3 (not
sure of the exact version of ZAM as Im home right now). ;-)

I will download the latest patch for client 2 sp1 on Monday and give
that a try.

Thanks for your help.

We are using ip addresses for both the tree name and the server name.

What version of the ZCM agent? With ZCM agent 10.3 I could not use LDAP
contextless login. Since I upgraded to 10.3.1 everything is working
again.

On the Win 7 machine, I uninstalled the Novell client, Zenworks for
Desktops (6.5), ZAM agent 10.3 and anything that referred to Novell or
Netware. Then I went through the registry and removed Novell and
NetWare stuff. Restarted the machine, and installed the latest client 2
sp1 ir3. I can login to 3 trees; however I still can't login to the
other 4 trees.

I took a WinXP machine that had the old lgncl running on it and stopped
contextless login from working on it. Verified it wasn't working on the
WinXP machine, and then setup ldap tab in the Novell client. Again, I
could login to the 3 trees that I could normally login to; however I
couldn't login to the other 4 trees.

I have downloaded an LDAP browser and logged in anonymously to a
working and non-working ldap server.

What else? Thanks.
Patty

It is working now. We noticed when we did a tracert, the working
trees/servers had a dns entry and the non-working ones did not. I found
a working dns entry (which was different than what was in the server's
host file) and tracerted that; then I added that entry into the
workstation's host file (Win7). LDAP contextless login then worked.

Went to the guy who looks after our WAN again to tell him what I did to
make it work. He fixed it. Our DNS is not run from Novell; it is run
on linux boxes and has been for years. The WAN guy hadn't originally
set up the DNS. This was his reply (in case it helps someone else out
there).

"I checked the reverse lookups for win-fs.iweb and they don't work....
This was because the IP header files for all internal networks have not
been created for any of the elementary schools (192.168.?.? addresses).
The Secondary schools did work as they use class A networks (10.?.?.?)
which had been created already. Novell must require a reverse DNS lookup
when performing the LDAP search of the tree."

LDAP Contextless login and Terminal Server
We have users working with applications on Microsoft Terminal Server (Windows 2003) delivered as icons to desktops by ZENworks 6.5. Of course, there is a Novell Client32 installed on a terminal server. Now the problem: Users are located in two containers. For example.. AAA.ORG and BBB.ORG ZENworks can pass eDirectory username and password of logged in user on the workstation to the terminal server's Novell Client in order to transparently log that user in.
