User logs in, loads another users profile.

I hope i'm posting in the correct place, I'm not sure if this is an AD
issue or a Novell client issue, or ConsoleOne.

User A logs into windows XP with the correct user name and password, it
logs him in but loads User B's profile.

Both users have never logged into the computer so it's not loading a
cached profile, it always loads users B's profile, doesn't matter which
computer.

If user B logs in it is fine.
I checked both users profiles in AD and ConsoleOne and all seems to be
set correctly.

We do not use roaming profiles, nor do we use terminal services
profiles.

Any ideas or if you need clarification let me know?

Thanks

Have you tried reinstalling the Novell Client?

Also, do you use ZENworks? If so, it could be the DLU for the machine.

Is it one machine or all machines?

I did re-install the client on one machine, however it happens on all
machines this user logs into.

Are they all the same kind of machine? IE, Running the same image?

What happened when you reinstalled?

and do you use ZENworks with DLU? You didn't answer that before.

Also, what version of the client are you running?

Dave

You checked to see what profile info is in the user's profile store
location (usually the home drive)?

I find it unusual that this user A has access (rights) to user B's
profile location. Is user A an admin?

Yes, they are all running the same image.

When i re-installed, after rebooting, the same thing happens, it loads
User B's profile when logging in.

We do not Use Zenworks with DLU.
We are using 4.91 SP2, i also tried upgrading to SP4, and that did no
good.

I checked both users in question and their home profile location is
blank which is how it should be. Both users are not a local
administrator on the machine.

Another thing i am going to try is try narrowing it down a bit more and
keep the novell client off, and just authenticate through windows\AD,
see if it's something with his AD profile. Maybe something happened
through the replication process?

This happens when User A logs into any machine that he or user B have
never logged into before.

When you use ZEN to do Wandering Profiles, it normally copies that
user's profile back to their home directory in an NT5 directory. So, if
that person logs in and logs off of a properly set up computer, they
should NOT have a blank profile.

I think we have a failure to communicate.

You talk about "profiles" and "cached profiles" and that usually means
local user profiles, which follow the user around if you use ZEN (or for
that matter, AD).

IN what sense do you mean "profile"?

I fear we're talking about 2 different things here. In the Novell
world, the user would login via Client32, and if there was a local user
profile with that user name and password (identical credentials) then
the user would use that profile.

If the Novell environment is running dynamic local user and wandering
profiles, then a local user account (with privileges that should be
there) is created on that local machine if needed. The system would
then sync up their stored "wandering" profile against the local profile
on that machine. Therefore, if User A gets User B's profile, they get
their desktop settings, My Documents, etc etc. User profiles are
normally kept in the user's home directory.

IN AD, the terms are different. I suspect you're trying to use AD
terms on a Novell site, which is confusing me. Yes, try taking the
Novell stuff out of the mix and see what happens.

PS - I'm now in AD world most of the time, and I completely puzzled why
i have to manually make the AD user the admin of that local machine, or
why I have to manually join the workstation to the domain, or....

What kind of profiles do you actually use? AD or local? Or something
else?
