Zenworks tracks that info if you have it.

Novell has a new enhancement request system,
or what is now known as the requirement portal.
If customers would like to give input in the upcoming
releases of Novell products then they should go to

It will not help you now, but for the future, some small foot print methods:

1. A down and dirty tracking method if you are using the Novell Client
for your Windows computers is to set a loginscript variables for the
computer name, ip and or nic address, the logging in user and the
date/time and write it to a text file.

Other users on this forum mentioned:

2. But if you have Zenworks, create two force run applications, one for
user login and another for logout. Applications would run a .bat file
which would write logfiles to server.. like:

@echo off
echo %nwusername%,%date%,%time% >>\\server\path\%computername%.txt

for more complex things like this, look at:
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/trench/3576.html

3. Add-on. But if all you want to do is login/logout times, there is a
free package that does this. I am using it.

6. Check out NodeMaster (http://www.avanti-tech.com) ...

7. You can use our DSMETER for NetWare product to track logins and
logouts (and other activity too). A 30-day evaluation is available

no last logged in user after workstation only login
Due to our work environment we have the last logged in user displayed on workstation startup. This has worked with no problems in the Novell Client 2 sp2 but we are trying to upgrade to sp2 IR1 and have come across a problem. The last logged on user field populates just fine if you are just doing novell logins but after a workstation only login the user field is blank on the next startup. All of the settings are the same as they were in the previous version. Why won't the last logged in user name show up after a workstation only login?? We have it set to always default to the...

ZAProBeta - non admin/admin user
WINXP I have noticed that if I boot my system and log in as a non priv user vsmon can be running under the SYSTEM account - which it should be as a service. (To get it to run reliable under the SYSTEM account wait at least 30 seconds after the login CTRL-ALT-DEL box is placed on the screen). If I now log out and log back in as an administrative user - vsmon is still running as it should be. If I log out and log back in as my original non priv user vsmon is now running as the logged on user - which it shouldn't be. Can anyone else confirm this happens for them - please stat...

last logged on user left after restart, not log out
On my Windows 7 clients (Novell Client IR7) I'm seeing a puzzling event: In my client properties, I have Advanced Login>Last Logged On User turned "off" and the user field is indeed cleared if I log out. HOWEVER, the user field is NOT cleared if I restart or shutdown/startup the computer. In those cases, the last logged on user's name is waiting in the field when it appears after boot. It's like the step that clears the user field isn't happening when Windows is shutting down. I'm not well-versed enough in Windows 7 or the Novell Client on Window...

Problem in determining whether a user (who has logged onto MPS) is a Domain Admin, Customer, Customer Admin, or Reseller Admin
Hi Guys, I know there are similar questions to this but I think I have a slightly different problem. The problem is machine or server specific and relates to the login.  When a machine has the problem no other users other than an Domain Admin can log into the MPS system (our version of sample web).  For example our development machines have no problem (although one did before a rebuild) but our main production server will not allow users to login in only domain admins.  I deployed the MPS system to another server and it worked fine.  The problem is around the get user c...

Workstaion user history and user logged in workstations not updating
We are having issues with ZFD 4 ir4 not registering on some systems, others will register in nds, but will not update the workstaion user history or register in the user logged in workstations. We need this to remote control the user. Have upgraded to 4.90 sp2 and ZFD401_ir4a Looking in the zwsreg.log on the workstation I have found that on initial login the USER DN is empty. If I right mouse click on the red N and login after windows is up then the USER DN is correct and the workstation user history and user logged in workstations is propagated. "Joel" <Joelrsw@...

Problem in determining whether a user (who has logged onto MPS) is a Domain Admin, Customer, Customer Admin, or Reseller Admin (c# type questions)
I am customizing the MPS system to perform more specific provision functions. Along the path of development, I have found a strange problem. I will be as clear as possible with this in that it includes several methods within the codebehind aspect of MPS. Here goes! When a user first goes to the MPS provisioning website, they are presented with a basic authentication type logon. Here is the codebehind from the Global.asax.cs file that handles the user credentials and sets the user type:protected void Session_Start(Object sender, EventArgs e)        {&nbs...

LDAP/AD
We have an application that will get the IP of the workstation, but I need to know the current logged in user of that IP.  Thru the web app I can not use %username%.  This is not a authenticating app.  This is a display screen that needs to say "Joe Bob you can not access ESPN.com".  The only info I have is the IP address.  Can I use that to access AD and get the current logged on user? Thanks - BRIAN user.identity.name or HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name of course this is for the current logged in userVB,.NET 2.0MS SQL 2000 No, AD will not do this. ...

WANTED: Tool to monitor log-in & log-out of specific users
I'm trying to find a tool for NW 6.5 that allows me to track the time each user spend on the network. I'd be sufficient to log the time stamp for log-in and log-out. Should be freeware or demo. I've tried "UserKVYMonitor" but this one only shows you log-in but not log-out. And it does not store these data. Does someone knows tools like this? Any help would be highly appreciated Regards Peter -- pklaffenbach ------------------------------------------------------------------------ pklaffenbach wrote: > > I'm trying to find a t...

Web page not detecting a logged in user/user not logging in
Hey guysAs it stands, I've created two web pages within my app. One is a login page which is simply a blank page with the login control dragged on top. Within this control I redirect to my second page which contains a set of asp:Panels that are supposed to hide/display depending on which user is browsing the page.I've read several tutorials and at the moment, I've installed memberships/roles using the aspnet_regsql application. I've also used the web administration tool to create an 'administrators' role and create a user which is assigned to that role. I've also ...
