Problems saving excel files and opening word files with cifs

I have a NW6SP4 cluster with cifs.
Users can access shares but they are not able to open word files nor
saving excel files (word and excel simply stuck!).
It doesn't ahppens with other kind of files (text only, power point, acess
databases).
I guess it has something to do with the way excel and world work with
files (using temporary files). I tried to apply the latest cifs patches
available for nw6 (cifs.nlm 1.60 oct 5 2004), but it didn't solve the
problem.
I'm using word and excel 2000.
Can someone help me ?
Thanks in davance.

You're having this problem when a resource migrates from a node to other?

Actually I didn't pay attention to this fact.
I can do a test, but to get a clean environment I must restart the cluster
and I must do it during non working hours.
Do you know some specific issue related to node migration and problems in
opening/saving word and excel files ?

Julio,
I had a test today and it does seems that moving resources between nodes
doesn't affect the functinning.
One strange thing is that I tried to simulate the problem on virtual
machine (vmware) with XP SP2 and office 2000, but on it everithing works
fine.
Coversely I have the same problem on a w2k3 server.
I spent the last two days looking for info into Internet but I didn't
manage to find anything usefull.
Please give me some help!

 >Conversely I have the same problem on a w2k3 server.

You mean this as a client to your NW cluster? Or as a server connected
to with cifs? If the latter you clearly have a Windows problem, you need
to go to a MS support forum.

If the former, start by applying nw6sp5 and Go into Monitor - server
parameters - NCP and Set Client File Caching = Off, and Set Level 2
OpLocks Enabled = Off.

I have this issue both using an xp client connecting a cluster with cifs
installed and a w2k3 server connecting the same share on the cluster.
I suspect it has something to do with the 885250 ms hotfix, uninstalling
it from the xp solved the problem but it didn't from w2k3

any clue ?

We have the same problem with w2k3 server, Novell 6.5 sp2 server and cifs
only XP sp2 clients

Would those changes just apply to NCP - Novell clients. Wouldn't the
CIFS Oplocks have to be disabled through iManager, File Protocols, CIFS
properties?

Good point, you could well be right. It does not harm to do the NCP ones
though, all servers should have that.

Saving Excel and Word files fails and will only save to temp file
Hi Sometimes wer having problems saving Excel 97 and Word 97 files. An error message tells us that we cant save the file but the file is saved as a temp file. You cannot hardcode the path to the Textfile in your code, because there is no guarantee that your Host is using the same path on their server, you need to use Server.MapPath() to get the correct re...

File open/lock Monitor on one file closes when user accesses this file
Hello, we are running a DBase 4.1.1 MS-DOS application at Netware OES 6.5 SP4 (Novell Small Business Suite Server). Sometimes we are experiencing a slow down of the application when the server CPU ha about 5% and the disks are also not running heavy. There is nothing to find in the network too. What we found today is, that when a user accesses ex. file.dbf and we open the "File open/lock activity" Monitor on this file, the monitor closes immediately. We can shortly see the users session (nolock) before it closes. Are there any hints we can follow to find the backgrou...

(Firefox 1.5.0.6) I'm having trouble with HTML Anchors (links) using the file: protocol. The URL I'm trying to get at looks something like this file://///Host.Domain/Share/Dir1/Dir2/File.Ext If I click on the link, /nothing/ happens but, if I "Copy Link Location" and paste exactly the same thing into the "address bar" in FireFox, FireFox is perfectly happy to show me the file. Why the difference? Am I tripping over some security restriction here? Any suggestions? TIA, Phill W. Phill W. wrote: > (Firefox 1.5.0.6) > I'm ...

File Upload Problem
Hi Everyone,I was grateful to be able to download the code for uploading files into a folder from Sreedhar's web page. The code works well, but whenever there is another new file with the same file name being uploaded into the destination folder, the old file will be replaced. I am wondering if there is any way to solve this problem (How about adding a number to the new file's name, e.g. File1.doc, if there is an existing File.doc?) I am an absolute beginner and any help is deeply appreciated. The original code is as follows: <%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/MasterP...
