Problem with attachments in Thunderbird

I am having trouble with attachments in Thunderbird messges which I
send. For some recipients, the attachments are embeded in the text of
the message. Other recipients semm ot receive them OK. So for example,
a Microsoft word document appears in its raw form, which to the
uninitiated looks like goobledigook.

Is there any way to ensure that attachments are NOT sent in-line?

AFAIK there is no way to send attachments "in-line". Take a look at the
source of a message with attachments you sent (don't know where this
hides in TB, but in Mozilla I can use Ctrl+U or View->Message Source).
If the attachment was done correctly there should be something like

   MIME-Version: 1.0
   Content-Type: MULTIPART/MIXED;
                 BOUNDARY="-559023410-1932422408-1118770099=:27398"

in the header of the message and you should see some "extra headers"
further down, where the different parts of the message are seperated. Like

   ---559023410-1932422408-1118770099=:27398
   Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII

for the main text and then something like

   ---559023410-1932422408-1118770099=:27398
   Content-Type: APPLICATION/octet-stream; name="somefile.doc"
   Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64
   Content-ID: <someid@somehostname>
   Content-Description:
   Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="somefile.doc"

If you see that, I would guess that the people who read your messages
are using broken mail programs...

Thanks Peter,

I have found that the offending mail programs are Notes and Eudora.

Thunderbird attachment problem
Hi, I been using Thunderbird version 2.0.0.21 , the problem arises when i try to attach a file frm a remote PC. I am using thunderbird on kubuntu 9.04 and i am wanting to add files as attachment from one of my remote windows PC. Thus presently its not avaiable with thunderbird but Kmail allows you to give a option from where you can add files from remote PCs, thus u can use samba share in Kubuntu OS. So wanted to clarify is this a serious issue when we compare Thunderbird with this feature. -- regards, Sourav Mohanty (Linux Lingo) ...

Mozilla Thunderbird problem
I really like Mozilla Thunderbird with the exception of one thing. When the users password expires on their mail account, Mozilla Thunderbird goes into an infinite loop, and never prompts the user for his new password. Granted, Mozilla cannot present a Change Password dialog box., however it should not go into an infinite loop. If I get an error when I try to recv. e-mail from the mail server, and Mozilla doesn't understand it, it should display the error once, then disconnect. I never like to END TASK a program. Also, there is no easy way to have the user enter a new pas...

Mozilla / Thunderbird IMAP problems
Hello, after having used OE for a few years (not absolutely voluntarily) I switched back to Mozilla / Thunderbird a few weeks ago. All in all, I think these are great programs. Sadly, there is one single thing that drives me almost crazy. I can't get IMAP to work correctly: - Messages marked as read reappear as unread in my INBOX. - Deleted messages in the INBOX reappear until I purge/compact the folder. - Some messages sometime don't appear again in the INBOX after I read them once. They are still in the folder though. - Checking for new messages results in the app...

Problem mail to Thunderbird from Mozilla
I am having trouble getting my mail transferred to Thunderbird from Mozilla. I have four email accounts on Mozilla. I transferred them one at a time. Two accounts were ok - the mail was recognised by Thunderbird and new .msf files were created. But on the other two there is no mail showing - nothing in inbox or sent. I have verified that both inbox and sent are in the right place. Any ideas what to try? TIA Simeon Renais wrote: > I am having trouble getting my mail transferred to Thunderbird from > Mozilla.
