Installing extensions in Thunderbird 5 by using the extensions folder
as already described at and it was possible to install
extensions by copying the XPI files to the %profile%/extensions
folder. Unfortunately Thunderbird ignores this procedure in version 5.
Does anyone know how to install extensions via the command line or can
me point to an according manual?
Thanks a lot and best regards, Alex

This messages is copied both the n.p.m.mail-news and .builds newsgroups.
After a fresh install of Thunderbird 1.0.6, I cannot install Extensions.
I download the .xpi, and then click "install" in the Extension Manager,
and select the ".xpi" file and nothing happens: It returns me to the
extension manager. The problem occurs both in the source tree and in the
system locations, as root or as a regular user. Extensions that were
installed with a different version of TB work in the newer version, as
well. Any help would be appreciated!

We're trying to decide if we can upgrade to 5.4.5 "in

Has anyone tried the "upgrade in place" option?

My project is currently running with the framework 3.5 web.config. I am interested to use some of the new Ajax functionalities found in Extension 3.5 (ScriptManager EnableHistory attribute etc.). I looked at the generic web.config files produced by Extension 3.5 which appear to syntactically differ quite a bit from the standard config file. I had difficulties porting my current web.config setup to Extension 3.5. Does anyone know what sections to change to make my config file support these new Ajax extensions? TIA for any hints.

I've been trying to create a Thunderbird extension, and
basing it on the Offline extension. Adapting Offline files, I got a skeleton,
but the installation I've copied isn't really satisfactory (in Thunderbird
22.214.171.124 on Gentoo):
1) I can only install as root. Offline asks the user whether to install in
profile or in Thunderbird directory; under my user account, installation in
profile fails with error -239, in Thunderbird directory with error -215.
2) The extension doesn't show in ...GW 5.5.5 Install
We are running GW 5.5.5 on XP clients, and in the past did manual
accepting all the defaults as we went thru, including the WinNTWMS
We are about to start using Zen to roll out our new PCs, and we now
hands free install for the client, except for the WinNTWMS prompt...
there any way to turn this off when doing the install? I cannot seem
a switch or anything for it?
