Hello,

When I subscribe to a newsgroup, thunderbird ask me how many header
message I want to view (default to 500). After having answered to this
question, how can I change this, how can I tell thunderbird to see more
headers that the number I initially has choose?

Thanks for your help,

Olive

(P.S. I actually use seamonkey on linux, but the thunderbird forum has
much more adherent; since I think that the two behave the same, I
initially post my message here).

If you want to see the headers for already-posted messages, you would
have to unsubscribe and resubscribe to the group.

thats correct, but if you want to download more, then make a change in
Tools, Account Settings, select the account, and under Server Settings,
in the middle, change the download number from there.

The accounts settings look similar, but in SeaMonkey you can only reach them
from a "Mail and Newsgroups" window, not from a "Browser" window.

In Thunderbird, it is (in Linux):

Edit => Account Settings => (news account name) => Server Settings =>
[x] Ask me before downloading more than [ 1000 ] messages.

Tony.

Thunderbird switching focus while reading news
Hello all, I've noticed something quite annoying in Thunderbird/win32 0.7.2. Normally I have the keyboadr focus set to the article pane so i can just hit the space bar to scroll down and then to the next unread message. However, if you have "View" set to "Unread", after about 25 seconds teh keyboard focus flips up to the "Subject or Sender contains" bar. Quite annoying, since the caret does snot appear in the article pane so I can't really know that the focus has switched, I just press the space bar to continue along. But with the focus n...

Thunderbird Error: 'A News(NNTP) error occured: xpat not supported'
All, I am trying to search the newsgroup for messages to issues and I have found a new one. I am having to use OE to do searches in this newsgroup. I have the news group listed. I highlight the 'mozilla.support.thunderbird' and CTRL-Shift F (find) and I enter my criteria 'URL' and I get the error listed in the subject. Anyone getting this? And how do I search the news group with Thunderbird? Or what am I doing wrong? Read news articles appear as not-read?
In all subscribed groups the articles that I have read in a Tbird session appear as they should 'as read', ie in a faded text. Unread articles are shown in bold. However the next day or so when I go back to the same group the messages that I have read the previous day(s) are again shown in bold as if I hadn't read them? I am sure there is a global setting but nor sure which one I need to set. I don't want the articles to be deleted just to show that they have been read. [bug] Thunderbird or news.eternal-september.news?
I use TB (latest) on Win8.1 access newsgroups on "news.eternal-september.org" When going through a given thread, I sometimes get the following error message when I select the 'next' message: "The connection was refused when attempting to contact news.eternal-september.org:119." This is strange, as the previous message(s) in the same thread were also from the same server. This is not always reproducible, but it happens often enough to have become mildly annoying. The only way I can get myself out of this rut is to switch to a different NG and then c...
