Msg sent once, gets posted 3 times

I'm using TB 52.8.0 on a Win10 64 bit PC. Sent a reply earlier today to
a msg on mozilla.support.firefox and it was posted 3x! Any one else
experience multiple postings to a newsgroup using TB? Any suggestions
how to prevent this in the future will be appreciated not only by me but
I'm sure by all the other readers.

Because of the way the Firefox and Thunderbird support newsgroups are
set up, where the newsgroup and mailing list are bi-directionally
mirrored, using [Reply All] will send your message to the forum 3 ways.
I assume that's what happened in your case.

When using the newsgroup, use the [Followup] button.

Where do I find a [Followup] button? I don't have one and in the customize
window it is not there to be added. What I do have is a [Reply] button and
that only ever posts one time. Please elucidate (or hallucinate if that is
more enjoyable).

I have got it here - It's a drop down list. Look at the small arrow on
the right in the red box in my picture.

It's in the header pane. Here's a screenshot:

Not for me. All I see there is:

http://www.johnmcgaw.com/FFSNIP.JPG

and there is no option for [Followup] to be dragged from the customize
which looks like this:

http://www.johnmcgaw.com/FFSNIP2.JPG

Probably doesn't really matter I guess since simply clicking [Reply] does
exactly what I want.

Whoops. Seem to have been bitten by the case-sensitivity snake again. The
URL http://www.johnmcgaw.com/FFSNIP2.jpg should work way better.

Oh, and I guess I need to do some work on my ancient 404 page since these
young whipper-snappers probably won't recognize 'The Parrot Sketch' reference.

The button should be in the message header by default for newsgroup
messages.

If not look for Smart Reply in Customize.

Right click in the message header, click Customize, drag and drop Smart
Reply to the header. It will magically change to Followup. I recommend
removing Reply by dragging it back to Customize.

When you try to do the customization you must have selected some
newsgroup. The icon choices for mail and newsgroups are different if I
remember correctly.

In later version of Thunderbird they have what is called a Smart Reply.
It is a combination of Reply, Reply to All, and Followup. What you see
depends on where you are newsgroup, email, etc.

You also have the option of putting the these buttons individually on
the toolbar.

The "Classic TB2" theme (which I am using) does not have "Followup".
I switched to "Default" theme and saw "Followup". I am using "Reply"
from "Classic TB2" for this message.

For the way TB displays on my system, Chris discussed the solution I'm
trying here right now - use "Followup to Newsgroup" from the dropdown
under "Message". We'll see what happens.

Regardless of whether I use "Classic TB2" (which I was using when I
generated the triple reply) or "Default" as my theme (which I'm using
now), neither the "Smart Reply" nor "Follow" icon Chris mentioned sticks
when I try to drag it to icon toolbar. In both cases, the cannot drag
here icon of the circle with the diagonal line through it disappears,
leading me to believe it will stick; however, when I release the mouse,
it doesn't stick. So for me, that group of "customize" icons are
useless. Not a problem with the much larger set of "customize" icons
that appear when I right click in the icon toolbar. Those stick just
fine. Go figure!

I suggest resetting the header pane.
1. Right-click on the header pane, and select Customize. Screenshot:
<http://ilias.ca/screenshots/tb-win10-customizeheaderpane.png>
2. Click on [Restore Default Set].

That "Restore Default Set" action worked, but differently than I
expected. It didn't give me a "Followup" icon I could drag to the
toolbar icon, but now I see the row of 6 gray rectangular "buttons" at
the top of the header pane (including the followup "button") where
before, none of the 6 boxes were there. I also learned by trial and
error that those 6 rectangular "buttons" are there when I use either the
Default theme or the No Glass theme, but are not rendered with the
Classic TB2 theme. So, it's good-bye to the Classic TB2 theme even
though I prefer the overall appearance of TB using it. Thanks Chris!
