Fixing Inbox after anti-virus fix

My antivirus program found email.worm.Win32.Mydoom.m in my Inbox and
fixed it. Subsequent sweeps say my computer is now clean. But, now when
I get mail and click on it, I either get a blank or a screen full of
garbage or fragments of html. (I have HTML enabled in my mail).

Did my antivirus program mess-up one of my Inbox files? How do I fix it?

Yes. Remember, your Inbox mail file is one continuous text file. Your A-V
either deleted the entire file, or tried to remove a piece of it -- and
that's never been successful in my experience.

Restore Inbox from latest backup would be best method.

Next time you find an infected email message, don't let the A-V delete it,
instead move it to Trash and then empty the Trash folder.

One way to fix a corrupt inbox file is to delete (or rename) it and let
Tb create a new inbox file. Then whatever was in the inbox file which
had not been backed up would be lost (or hidden in the renamed file).

Tb developers advise against using your AV on incoming or outgoing mail
because of the potential for such problems, and that such filtering
doesn't add anything useful to the AV agent's realtime scanning functions.

To elaborate further, you would have the same protection without the
incoming scanning because of your realtime scanning protection against
executing the malware. And, without the effect of the AV sanitization
on the incoming, which also slows down your mail delivery, presumably
you would have deleted the malware email in time, and then when your
inbox was compressed as a part of your routine maintenance, the bad
email would have been eliminated from your files without the potential
for the AV agent corrupting your inbox as part of its 'destructive' action.

Inbox corruption is not a good thing, because many people are 'tardy'
about sorting out the mail they want to keep from the other inbox items,
so they may have a lot of mail in the inbox which they don't want to
lose, but they are handling the inbox file in a manner which subjects it
to corruption -- corruption caused by both the problem of accumulated
'mass' of the inbox as well as the threat to the mass by the AV agent's
incoming scanning actions.

To prevent this from happening again, go to
Tools-->Options-->Security-->Anti-Virus, and check mark "Allow
anti-virus clients to individual incoming messages".

Incoming messages will be stored in a temp folder on your computer,
before being moved to your Thunderbird inbox. That way, if your AV
software quarantines the message, it doesn't take your whole inbox with it.

Fixing links to Thunderbird support pages in localizations
Hi guys, I don't know whether you noticed it, but for quite some time the URL www.mozilla-world.org has been gone. This has the bad side effect of breaking the Thunderbird support links in many languages for the upcoming TB pre-releases as well as in the current stable releases of the TB 2.0.0.x series. Here are the gory details for l10n-central (hg): - Most localizations point to the same place that en-US does. How long must you wait for an anti-virus fix?
Tuesday, 24 February 2004, 1:21 AM CET Imagine that your office building was on fire, and you called the fire department, only to be told, "Please wait there while we invent a new method to fight the kind of fire you have." You'd be furious! You'd expect the firefighters to rush to your building immediately, ready to fight whatever kind of fire they found. Unfortunately, anti-virus services are forced into a scenario that no firefighter would accept: "We have to invent new defenses every day." Anti-virus software can predict and prevent some n...

IFrame fix / unfix / fix ???
A few Betas back a 'fix' was applied to the IFrame core module which restricts non-numeric values being entered into the Height and Width properties (Issue 516) Since the implenetation of the IFrame is quite limited, many users implement workarounds for these values both within DNN and separate from DNN, such as entering javascript into the height property - eg. width = 388" style="height:expression(document.body.clientHeight-280);" Now this was realised in a later BETA and flagged to be removed, however now it seems a decision has been made that 'validation is more i...
