Changing the direction of reading mail

Is there a way to change the direction reading mail occurs?

When I delete the current message I'm reading it always wants to down to
the next email below. I want it to go the next email above. This is
reading from a separate reading window.

The reason I say this is that I leave certain emails in my inbox for
later review or reminders, but the sort order is decending so the older
emails are at the bottom and the newer emails are at the top. I start
at the oldest of the unread emails and work my way up until I reach the
top of the list. Then when the last email is read I would like the
reading window to close.

Can this be done?

Thanks,

Richard..

It sounds like you would like ascending rather than descending, is that correct?

From the main TBird window, View > Sort By > Ascending / Descending are options.

Also, for example, if sorted by date, then click the Date column again and it will reverse the sort order.

There is even an option to thread the messages or not in the View > Sort By menu. NNTP I like threaded, Mail I like un-threaded. Hey, at least it my choice! ;-)

When reading with a separate window you can use the message navigation
buttons on the toolbar to go back and forward through an accounts thread
pane. You may also be interested in an extension named Unselect
Message 1.3 available from the Mozilla Addons site. There is a link
in/on the Extensions/Addons Manager. The extension prevents focus from
shifting when one deletes a message, that normally causes next message
to auto-open. Instead it just allows highlighting only.

The problem with the direction was a bug first reported in the
last millennium :-) but now fixed "for SM 1.1/TB 2.0 [1.8.1 branch]":
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19625

Don't know what the behaviour is when the last message is read,
though (maybe there is/was a different bug for that).

Mail/Thunderbird doesn't properly mark imported mail as read/unread
There's an extremely annoying problem with Thunderbird/Mozilla mail for Windows which is preventing me from switching to it. I have an archive of thousands of emails which I would like to import from Outlook Express (not Outlook) into Mozilla Mail/Thunderbird. Some of these messages are read, some are unread. However, when I import them they ALL get marked as unread. I recall that there was a bug listing for this a while back and recently for version 1.5 someone claimed to have fixed it, but the problem still persists. I would like to think that this would be a tr...

Thunderbird: mails are marked as read
Hello, I installed thunderbird under Suse 11.1. When I download my mails, all mails are marked as read immediately before I opened them. I'm using Thunderbird under Windows also, there the problem doesn't exist. Has anybody an idea? I have activated that message will be marked as read after 99999999 seconds. This should be long enough. Thanks Albert -- AlbertMaier ------------------------------------------------------------------------ AlbertMaier wrote: > I installed thunderbird under Suse 11.1.
