'Unread messages' count in newsgroups doesn't clear

A few weeks ago I asked about why unread message count in newsgroups
doesn't clear when all messages have been read, and received a somewhat
lengthy and unspecific procedure for hunting and finding and correcting
something that gets set wrong. I think we need a simpler procedure for
finding the location to reset (I didn't find it), or I think it should
be regarded as a bug. Of course, the malfunction is something we can all
live with, but I think Mozilla deserves something better.

It's an issue that does have bug reports. Given that now with the
Mozilla Messaging Co. on it's feet and most of it's staff positions
filled that progress is gaining momentum. The Address Book is getting a
rewrite and News is getting the attention of one Engineer full time. By
one estimate there are over 1,900 bugs reported to Bugzilla that effect
Tbird. That is a big backlog that is now being reviewed by a new Triage
effort.

Okay, Ron, as long as it's on the list to be worked on,
that's all one could ask. Thank you.

very easy!

1) in win-explorer make sure that you have un-hidden any file-extensions
2) run a simple win-search for files and folders - *.rc -
3) open the found file called [server].rc that is giving you problems in
*any* text editor
4) edit the lines, as shown earlier
5) save the file - done!

another workaround that I sometimes use is
-have a filter to tag all for "later" (or another)
-untag them (hit "5" key by default for later) as a replacement for
read/unread
-you can do it for all on the screen when finished

the idea is that when read/unread get's messed, you don't woder around
in already read, but have a replacement

not so nice, but may use ..

That or right-click on the group and tell it to mark all messages read.

The suggestion to switch from news.etcetera etcetera to msnews.same
eteceteras seems to give the same mirrored messages, maybe quicker, and
the unread message count seems to clear there. I'll be watching it,
and if they get to where they don't clear there, I'll report back.

Yesterday 4 NG's within my ISP's server, news.sf.sbcglobal.net,
indicated a few unread msgs. Cleaning up the .rc didn't do a thing.
Today spent an hour searching mozillaZine and found nothing. Then
searched this NG for "unread messages" and near the end found your hint
that instantly did the job. For some dumb reason I never thought of
right clicking on the groups!! Thank you,
Miles

'do' won't 'do' if '/'
Greetings to All from Au, Have a NetWare Perl 5.8.4 and wanted to tweak File\Spec\NW.pm to try and standardise on '/' separators. If I run a test script (t/uni/lower.t) with an unmodified NW.pm, it calls t/uni/case.pl, that, in case.pl, (when the path separators are '\'), the $file is '..\lib\unicore\To\Lower.pl' and the following code portion works, with $simple getting a returned table: sub casetest { my ($base, $spec, $func) = @_; my $file = File::Spec->catfile(File::Spec->catdir(File::Spec->updir, "lib", &qu...

Thunderbird
Hi, How do I know if a message is 'local' (e.g. you wrote it yourself, so it's in the sent, drafts or concepts folder, or any other folder where you want to store those mails), or if it is 'remote' (e.g. you received it in your inbox). Of course I also want messages you sent to yourself to be recognized as remote. If it's of any matter, my main extension code is called from the messagepane-loaded event. Thanks, Frederik Vanderstraeten Frederik Vanderstraeten schreef: > Hi, > > How do I know if a message is 'local' (e.g. you wrote it yo...

Filter's rule that matches custom header doesn't work for incoming messages and 'Run filters on Message'
