"Sort by" misbehaving?

For a few weeks now, view/sort-by/order-received has been misbehaving
for me, it's not the usual accidental clicking on the column header to
accidentally sort by a different value.

When it happens, none of the "sort by" menu entries is ticked, the "up
arrow" appears in the date column of the message list pane, but it isn't
sorted by date, the actual order seems pretty random.

I can always switch it back to "order received" but it always misbehaves
again after a few hours. This affects all groups across all news
servers, but not (as far as I've noticed) mail servers.

Anyone else?

What is the status of the Threaded/Unthreaded item?

In newsgroups I see the sort order change if I switch from "Unread" to
"All". The order of the posts is random.

Order Received gets deselected, while Ascending and Threaded stay selected.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
Thunderbird/52.0a2, and Beta and Daily. I'll check my 45.5.1, since
Ubuntu hasn't updated to 45.6.0.

I use threaded and ascending.

I frequently toggle between view/messages/unread or view/messages/all

with view/threads/all and usually without view/threads/ignored

I don't notice any particular action of mine that forces the sorting to
actually go wrong.

You may be on to something, I do frequently switch between all and
unread using the view dropdown in the toolbar.

It didn't used to do this (more of a couple of months than a couple of
weeks that I've been muttering at it for doing this).

Doing some testing in 45.5.1 it appears that toggling view/messages/all
triggers the bug upon a restart of Thunderbird.

I have view/threads/all selected and it occurs in Safe Mode and a new
profile.

I've been testing this for awhile and just figured it out.

45.6.0 here.

Simply toggling between all/unread/all/unread isn't sufficient to
trigger it for me. Perhaps toggling view in combination with switching
to a different group, or a group on a different server ...

If I make sure I've got the column headers for "Date" and "Order
Received" visible, when I toggle between View/All and View/Unread I see
the ^ sort indicator move between the "Date" and "Order Received" columns

But the selected menu entry within View/SortBy does not change at the
same time, the actual damage seems to get done by changing away to a
different group and then back again, at which point *no* entry in the
menu is selected.

Yes, I seem to recall that anomaly. Probably time for a bug report so it
can be fixed by the next major release. That is if one doesn't already
exist.

I did search bugzilla a while ago and only found one vaguely similar
bug, I'll have another look now I have a sequence of events to reproduce it.

Bit of a delay while I got my bugzilla password updated, if anyone has
any detail to add, or thinks it deserves filing a new bug report rather
than attaching to this one, let me know ...
