New Seamonkey, new bug

On restarting Seamonkey a few minutes ago, I was informed
that it was installing my updates, then checking my plug-ins
for compatibility, then asked if I wanted it to be my
default client for e-mail, and finally launched.

All looked promising, but rather displeased that it had
migrated itself from 2.2 to 2.3 without my explicit
permission, I immediately opened

	Edit/Preferences/Privacy & Security

to try to identify the box to uncheck in order to disable
"update without explicit permission".

What I found instead was that the dialogue box was
not fully visible (see screenshot) --

	https://picasaweb.google.com/110725905659537251822/ScreenCaptures?authkey=Gv1sRgCPLV3Kvwm6zA5QE#5641846908634081906

whatever is intended to appear below "Saved Password"
is cut off by the lower edge of the dialogue box.

Surely dialogue boxes should check how big they
will need to be before presenting themselves to
a user ?

P.S. I have now located the appropriate preference,
which turns out to be under

	Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Software Install... (another truncated field)

but it does not offer me the behaviour I would prefer :
download automatically, but install only after asking
permission.

You did try stretching the boxes?
Just checking, so I don't make the wrong assumption.

:-) :-) <sarcasm on:
But why would anybody ever want that?
         :off sarcasm> :-) :-)

Well, that one works for me fine.
(Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:6.0) Gecko/20110806
Firefox/6.0 SeaMonkey/2.3; German locale)

But I have a similar issue on "Mail and Newsgroup Account settings", any
account, "Copies and Folders" -> also cut at the bottom.

I have the feeling, there is more... "space" around some headings /
border lines and some pop-up-select-bottoms seem bigger...
.... will try now, what happens, when I revert back to SM2.2.

I'll keep you updated.

Yes, the boxes can be stretched. The point I was
trying to make (and clearly failing) is that the
software should check how big the box needs to be
before presenting it; manual intervention should
not be necessary.

Was already the same with SM2.2 (same profile).

Since the re-size works (didn't know that) that's at least not critical.

....or at least it should include a scroll bar. Which might be handy for
large dialogs in low vertical resolution screens (like on some
netbooks), by the way.
