Can I work with more than one email account with Seamonkey?

Can I work with more than one email account with Seamonkey? My ISP has
created an additional Pop3 email account for another family member
(Wife). For emample (not real account names, of course) me <xy@yyy.com
and her <xx>@yyy.com . Both accounts use the same SMTP server for
outbound. When I try to create another account, it tries to set up a
news account instead of an email account.

You can, I do.

This is a known bug. The easiest workaround, once the new news account
has been created, is to delete it. You should then be able to create new
mail and news accounts as desired. If not, post back.

<https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.49.4/>

After creating a news account through clicking a news URL, the MailNews
account wizard may be broken (the account type will always be News). To
work around the problem, set the mail.server.serverX.valid pref (where X
is the internal number of the corresponding news account) to true in
about:config, or delete the invalid news account (bug 521861).

I looked the bug up -
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=521861 - and it is nine
years old, dating back to Seamonkey 2.0.1. This would seem to indicate
that the problem was not imported from Thunderbird.

Amusingly, there is an interesting reference in comment 4:
> BTW, in my case clicking in a news:// link didn't CREATE a fake news account; instead, MODIFIED one of my newsgroup accounts, renaming it and changing the From: e-mail address associated to it.

The concept of "Fake news accounts" is older than we thought.

Going back to the original question, I am having a problem with adding
an imap account on my laptop (Windows 10, 2.49.3). I already have 4 pop
accounts and this news server set up there.
The password is being rejected, even though it is correct and all the
other values agree with the ones the (Thunderbird) instructions specify.
Are there any "issues" with imap at present?

It is in shared code. I attached a wip patch to work around one of the issues
in the bug but didn't find time to finish it yet. Ratty suggested some
improvements. The wip patch is in Bills unofficial builds: http://www.wg9s.com/

There are always issues :) That said 2.53 and 2.49.5 work fine for me with imap.

I have three profiles each with several accounts but I keep one for
newsgroups only with its own hotmail account for years
at work I have two profiles one with two accounts and the other with
eight accounts so it does work nicely and have had no problems

I was unable to create the email account on this machine. After letting
it create a spurious news account and then deleting it, SeaMonkey then
allowed me to create the email account. But, when clicking "finish",
SeaMonkey crashed. I tried it a couple of times and then gave up.

The good news is that since my wife's computer had no news accounts, the
process worked flawlessly the first try. So problem solved, sort of.

This need came up because many websites use the person's email address
as the User ID or as a key to certain services. This is sometimes a
problem, such as with healthcare portals. We also use (and like) the
USPS Informed Delivery system. Since we have a PO box and a physical
address -->> need a different email account for each.

Next steps: off to the Samsung Phones to set the new email address up
with IMAP. Then back to my computer to see if the "about:config" set
mail.server.serverX.valid trick works.

Thanks for the tips, all.

at work I have 9 emails
1 personal and 8 shared and monitored

I am the only one using SeaMonkey and find it easy to use but do laugh
at the work the others go threw
