We're sorry Firefox had a problem and crashed...

Evenin' all,
Never had the above problem myself, but I'm asking on behalf of wife who
is having a lot of trouble with this...

Tried Restart with Addon disabled, it still crashed and wanted to try and
restore her tabs.

Tried with a new profile, it still did the same.

Installed a new clean copy of Firefox 31 using either new profile of
original profile, no change.

Any measures possible to ease this for her.

Thanks
Dave

Try Help>>Troubleshooting>>Reset Firefox to it's default state.
Reseting is suppose to keep your settings as a file on your Desktop.
I would move or copy your profile folder somewhere. After the reset is
done start Firefox and see if the problem is gone. If there is no
problem, then you can go to the new profile folder>>delete it's contents
(don't delete anything in the Firefox folder except the contents of the
profile folder.)>> open your old profile folder>> delete any lock files
(there will be one maybe two-.parentlock and maybe a shortcut>lock) copy
all of the other contents to your new profile folder.
You will have all of your settings and addons the way they were before.

Thanks for the thought, but if you read my original posting above...

Tried with a completely new profile. (Nothing added or reconfigured)
Installed a new clean copy of Firefox 31 using either new profile or
original profile, no change.

Thanks

Enter the below in the URL bar and press ENTER (on the Firefox
with the problem)

    about:crashes

If there is a crash Report ID for the time of the crash, then
the crash report itself may provide clues. Either click on
the report ID (it's a link) and wait for the crash report to
be retrieved, or post the report ID and someone else can look
at the report itself.

I might guess that this crash could be due to a buggy plug-in,
but that is just a guess at this stage.

The crash report id is: bp-0cfbbd14-7c58-4e1e-bf44-b91ef2140808

The only thing of note I saw in it yesterday was:

Crash Reason: Exception_Access_Read_Violation.

I noticed that one of the modules is DClickDesktopHook.dll. A quick web
search indicates that may be malware. Try running a malware scan and
removing any hits to see if that eliminates that crash.

Thanks for the thoughts Chris, appreciated.

Yes indeed that .dll does exist on her computer as it naturally would as
she used PowerDesk Pro as the sys filer.

As it's part of PowerDesk I would assume it is okay. (Been using PowerDesk
for many, many years).

However, to test the idea, I've munged the DClickDesktopHook.dll file name
and dot suffix to something that is not a file type.

I've been to Sys config (msconfig) and unticked the entry for
PDHookServer, which on computer startup references DClickDesktopHook.dll.

Then I've cold rebooted the computer.

Tried some known sites that produce the Firefox crash, no change, Firefox
still crashed.

Interestingly, one of my computers (Same OS and same version of FX as
hers) has PDP installed as the sys filer, it obviously has
DClickDesktopHook.dll as part of PDP, but this Firefox does not crash out.

Those of us who've been around computers for a long time are aware that
you can have two identical computer systems, one of which works like a
dream and the other is as fickle as a maiden aunt.

Which makes identifying the problem even more difficult.

Thanks
Dave

Nb1: At the moment to ease her frustration I've moved her over to PaleMoon.

Nb2: I did a couple of Malware scan on her machine and it did turn up one
small item now excised.

Well tiz' a new day, time to try something else.

After taking a copy of her profile somewhere else for safe keeping...
Using Revo Uninstaller, I have completely (Raspberry) uninstalled Firefox
and its stuff.

Then using CCleaner removed a few other bits of Fx stuff, so hoping that
it would be a good cleanup of any Fx detritus left in the registry.

I should be so lucky... There's still a bucket load of Fx references in
the registry, but I neither have the time or inclination to wade through
them and decide if they can be manually excised or not.

Anyway, I downloaded and installed a new fresh and virgin copy of Firefox
31 and in this virgin state it is substantially more crash free than the
previous version.
However, it's not totally crash free, and does occasionally crash in the
same way.

I've been looking through the Win Event Viewer, and it appears most of the
crashed happen this way:

****************************
Faulting application name: firefox.exe, version: 31.0.0.5310, time stamp:
