sharing Calendar files across multiple open source applications using ics files

SB 0.8
Win XP Pro SP2
Mandriva Linux

Hi,

I would like to share the calendar files I am currently using in Sunbird
WinXP with Linux, using Sunbird Linux and perhaps other open source
calendaring applications at times.

My understanding is that I need to migrate to ics format--as opposed to
sdb format within the Sunbird profiles--in order to properly share the
calendar files.

What is the best way of doing so? Export the calendars?

My plan was to "export" each calendar files from SB in Windows to a
"Calendar" folder/directory on a FAT32 partition I share between WinXP
and Linux.

Then, what exactly? In each of SB WinXP and Linux, open up SB and use
"File|Subscribe to remote calendar" and put the path to the calendar
file on the FAT32 partition?

OR; just use Open up SB and use File|Import? Or use File|Open Clalendar
File? (I am not clear on the differences between those 3 options, if any.)

I want to only have one calendar file format, that the calendaring
applications will share--not simultaneously of course. Meaning for each
current calendar file I currently use, get rid of the sdb file in SB's
profile in favor of only the ics version of the file.

Can I get info on the best way to accomplish that?

Also, I will need to uncheck the current sdb calendar files under the
"Calendars Tab"--which are still sdb files within my profile, at the
moment; or perhaps delete or remove them from SB altogether?

Thanks for your help.

for exported .ics you should use "file/open"

may use "subscribe", but you would enter the path manually, like
file:///C:\calendars\xxx.ics
I think is ment mostly for web and other remote cals ..
"import" would actually import the data from that cal into the current
cal in SB/LT (be it ics or sdb)

OK. Import would not be good as I could not share the file.

I will try using Open...

Any further suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

what can I say. Do read those notes on this 0.8 release and use
carefully. You may find that you need to refresh some remote calendars,
the "offline support" is rather experimental (not like you would sync -
when offline to create a new event and when online to update ..) etc.
Also, the .ics should be slower than the internal (sbd) as .ics is a
text file that has to be updated for changes, where sbd is a database ..

Do not worry now, there is still work going on and changes for every 0.x
ver where really significant. I just thought, to say some stuff will
make you digg a bit ...

For my purpose, this was the best solution:

The default Windows XP Sunbird calendar file can be share by creating the
following symbolic link.

  # cd /home/yourusername/.mozilla/sunbird/hvpwb3nd.default
  # mv storage.sdb storage_bu.sdb
  # ln -s "/mnt/windowsd/Profile.cu/Application Data/Mozilla/Sunbird/
      Profiles/youprofile.default/storage.sdb"

I was going to make a web program to organize info from multiple files onto one page. This page (ie: dafualt.aspx) would have:checkboxes where user picks what information to display. Use the same calendar file between Sunbird & calendar extension for Fx/TB
I don't know if this bug reported, so I decided to post here first. I wanna share my calendar files between Sunbird & calendar extension for Fx/TB, so I point the file path to the same calendar file (which I created with Sunbird before.) Strange things happended -- in calendar extension for Fx/TB, some Chinese characters turns into "???" (ya, many question marks), but the strings still displayed correct in Sunbird. 1. Create a new calendar in Sunbird. 2. Create a new event titled "會計學", click OK. 3. Close Sunbird, open the calendar extension in TB. ...

Cannot open items in .pbl file using File
Hello, I am using InfoMaker version 8.0.3 and I cannot open items in a .pbl file using the File - Open routine. I can open them using the Library Painter window and the .pbl file is set as my current working library. I have switched the object type to see if the display was limiting my list of reports. The entire list is blank. Am I missing a setting somewhere? Thanks! I have no idea. Using Shared Files Across Multiple ASP.Net Websites
I have about 12 ASP.Net websites that all rely on a library of functions, subs and classes, and numerous 'standardized' forms.  Everytime I make an update in one of these files, I have to manually copy them into the App_Code folder of each website.  In a Visual Studio desktop project, I can include my standardized files as links.  When I make a change in one of the files, all of my desktop applications are immediately updated.  Is there a way to do this with ASP.Net?  In the original ASP this could be accomplished with a #include directive. Open vcs(outlook calendar) file from asp.net web application
Hello, I have a asp.net web application running on a web server that allows creating events that can be added to outlook. When I run the code to add the event to outlook, I get a prompt to open / save the vcs file. If I save the file locally and then open it, it opens up in outlook correctly. However, if I try to hit "Open" on the prompt (instead of Save), I get a Microsoft Office Outlook error that says - "The operation failed. An object could not be found."
