Hi,

I am new to the bugzilla system and this is probably a trivial setup
question.

I've installed bugzilla on Windows 2003 Server with Apache running on it. I
also have IIS running on the same machine for other purposes, but it's not
used by bugzilla. I followed the step by step instructions at this site:
http://www.bugzilla.org/docs/win32install.html

I am able to access bugzilla and enter information into the database. The
only problem I'm having is with the email notifications. I've setup my
machine as a mail server and I didn't seem to have any issues there. I get
this error message when entering a new bug and don't know what causes it:

undef error - Failed to send: Bad file descriptor at C:/Perl/lib/CGI/Carp.pm
line 314

I found one support posting about it, but it didn't have a reply to it. Am I
missing some steps? The bugs seem to save into the database, the error is
generated on sending them. Any information or help will be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you.

I've installed bugzilla on windows XP, with Apache 2.0. 55 and am in the
same situation. I can create bugs, products, users but email does not work.
I get the same error and also when running the sanity check I get

Bugzilla Sanity Check
OK, now attempting to send unsent mail
3 bugs found with possibly unsent mail.
Software error:
Failed to send: Bad file descriptor at C:/Perl/site/lib/Mail/Mailer.pm line
273.

I've checked my smtp connection by opening a telnet session and successfully
sending
an email.(Exchange2003 on a separate machine) I've also downloaded a
sendmail utility and tested that successfully. Adding
a PERL_MAILER environment variable pointing to the sendmail utility. Still
bugzilla gives me the same error messages when sending email.
If any of this is sparking any ideas please let me know.

I believe the problem is with the version of MailTools (1.7x) that was
intalled with the 2.20 bundle. I uninstalled that version and installed
1.67 per Marc Schumann's directions:

Luckily, the MailTools ppm on landfill is still at version 1.67, so
assuming you're using ActiveState perl, it's probably way easier to
use ppm. Do the following (I hope I get it right):

c:\>ppm
ppm>rep add Bugzilla http://landfill.bugzilla.org/ppm/
ppm>search MailTools

Note the number of the line mentioning version 1.67 of MailTools, and
use it in the following command in place of <number>.

ppm>install <number>

Hopefully this will work for you as well..

Dan
