Fixing links to Thunderbird support pages in localizations

Hi guys,

I don't know whether you noticed it, but for quite some time the URL
www.mozilla-world.org has been gone.

This has the bad side effect of breaking the Thunderbird support links in
many languages for the upcoming TB pre-releases as well as in the current
stable releases of the TB 2.0.0.x series.

Here are the gory details for l10n-central (hg):

- Most localizations point to the same place that en-US does. These are:
fr, gu-IN, mk, ga-IE, eu, af, el, tr, mn, en-GB, pl, da, ka, he, pt-PT,
  be, nb-NO, zh-TW, es-ES, es-AR, ro, nn-NO, pa-IN, sr, lt, fi, sv-SE

For these locales, everything is okay and nothing to do here.

- Some point to their own content:
de, ko, ca, ja, ja-JP-mac, hu, cs, zh-CN

For these locales, everything is okay and nothing to do here.

- The rest either points to broken or 404 pages on Mozilla sites:
sq, sk, nl, uk, pt-BR, ru, fy-NL, it

The question is, what should be done here? You could try to point
your support links (mailnews.hints_and_tips.url in your
/mail/chrome/messenger-region/region.properties file) to a URL on
www.mozilla-europe.org instead, but this only works, if adequate
content is situated there. Otherwise I would recommend to just point
  the links to http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/

The 1.8 branch (TB 2.0.0.x releases) looks similar. Probably the same
should be done here, although I haven't yet investigated what the
situation is there. While you're at it, please correct the links on the
1.8 branch as well, if they need changing. No need to ask for a separate
approval from me.

The easiest way for our localizers to fix this would be to resurrect
mozilla-world.org on mozillamessaging.

The silent death of mozilla-world.org makes me nervous about how stable
the situation is on mozilla-europe.org with respect to these redirects,
and experience tells us that having the redirects is a good idea in
principle.

I agree with axel that urls should all point to mozillamessaging and
redirects be set up from there, just like we do now for firefox on
mozilla.com. If we have to do it on mozilla europe, we could do it for
European locales as a temporary solution for 2.0.0.x releases if
mozillamessaging is not able to set up redirects easily but I'd prefer
these redirects to be centralised on mozillamessaging along with other
in-product pages for Thunderbird.

Hi, in the settings.properties, there are strings for localizing the support links (see at the bottom of the mail): Should these values even be managed by the localizers because I can imagine the same language used by different carriers (in the same or different countries)? Locales support (setlocale) fixes
Currently locale functions do not work 100% correctly for locales that have something else than comma as decimal separator. Following patch fixes this. Mainly misbehaviour was caused by misinterpreting of what 'setlocale' returns. Variable PL_numeric_name gets string like "LC_NUMERIC=English_England.\d\d\d\n" and later it is feeded as an argument to 'setlocale', which therefore fails. Such error remains unnoticed while comma is used as decimal point, but if some other char is used as a deciaml separator, then test 'pragma/locale.t(111)' fails. ...
