OpenID and BrowserID

First, let me apologize beforehand if this topic has already been visited,
but why isn't Mozilla supporting OpenID, which has slowly gained traction in
the last few years, instead of creating a completely separate implementation
addressing the same issue?

Merging dev-gaia and dev-b2g into dev-fxos
--001a113ce93ebce35d051e4c0c73 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Hello people of Firefox OS, After a discussion we have decided that the distinction between dev-gaia and dev-b2g mailing lists is not enough to warrant maintaining two lists. So we are deprecating both in favor of dev-fxos. So if you are subscribed to one of the aforementioned lists, you will be subscribed to the new dev-fxos list and we will shortly be decommissioning dev-gaia and dev-b2g. Thanks! Identical twins not identical
From the Vancouver Sun: http://www.vancouversun.com/health/Identical+twins+actually+identical+shocking+Canadian+research+finds/4530930/story.html Here's the text: "If you thought identical twins were identical, think again. Canadian scientists have discovered that identical twins do not have identical genes, a common assumption by researchers for more than a century, and a development that could have implications into the study of medicine and human behaviour. "That assumption has been with us since the beginning of time," said Shiva Singh, a molecular...

Primary identity authorities in BrowserID
Hi all, So how does an Identity Provider like facebook, gmail, or Yahoo! mail = become a "primary identity authority" in BrowserID anyway? I've spent some time trying to pull together all of the design = conversations we've had into a single document which proposes fairly = precise integration points and protocols for how primary support works. =20= This is a first draft, and there's at least one diagram that's not drawn = yet, but I'm ready for any and all feedback on the content. Overall = these are extremely important integration points and I&#...

SeamlessID: shifting from logins to identities... with BrowserID?
Hello! After a few discussions I had in the last months with also some people form Mozilla I was able to summarize the draft concept of SeamlessID in an article: http://intenseminimalism.com/2012/from-logins-to-seamless-identity-a-new-paradigm-for-the-web/ I think that BrowserID could be the right background technology and team as well with the right culture and vision to achieve that, and I think it's also well aligned with the objective of Mozilla in the Identity field. I'd love to hear any feedback you might have. :) Thanks, |D You captured the main shift =...

browserid reactions
Being at a US identity get-to-gether full of folks who have addressed the "= area" covered by browserid for a decade (and more=2C for some of us)=2C I'= ve been testing the "mindshare" waters over browserid. The test group is a = mix of names=2C government=2C international govt buyers=2C defense contract= ors and product/technical managers from silicon valley (style) cloud vendor= s. Its mostly US=2C with a few "invited" foreigners who tie into US nationa= l initiatives. =20 Here are some reactions. They are not technical. They are political. ...

Dev site not running under ASPNET identity
VS2005IIS 5.1Win XP Pro Hi I originally posted at the below link but I think that this is the more appropriate forum.http://forums.asp.net/thread/1326146.aspx The gist is that the site on my dev machine is running under the account I am logged in with (MyDomain\pootle.flump). I would like this to actually be the ASPNET account so I can start setting up appropriate permissions on the data sources. Is this reasonable? If so - how can I accomplish this? From help:On earlier versions of IIS, (in Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional), ASP.NET runs in the ASP.NET worker process (aspnet_w...

BrowserID dev, a wild and crazy idea
What if we put two rules on commit messages: 1. every commit message should reference an issue 2. rule #1 may be broken when the fix takes less time to author and test = than the issue would take to open. Benefits? QA would get a better more thorough changelog each week, and = would be able to more thoroughly and precisely target areas of change. Detriments? Devs might have some annoying administrative work. But as = I look at the last weeks worth of changes, it's mostly the case that = this is what we're doing anyway (it's possible to correlate each commit = to a...

Primary Identity Authorities in BrowserID #2
Based on all the feedback, I've updated and published the rough proposal = for how existing identity providers can become primary identity = authorities for BrowserID: http://lloyd.io/primary-identity-authorities-in-browserid I consider this to be a proposed starting point from which prototyping = can begin, and expect lots of changes and improvements before the = implementation lands in BrowserID proper. Thanks for the careful feedback and help (and I look forward to more), lloyd ...

browserid: getting tests working on dev branch?

browserid dev branch in code slush this week!
Hi everyone! Just a reminder, that this week we are targeting (pending = QA sign off) to ship train-2012.10.12 (wed) - and to branch = train-2012.10.26 (friday). What this means: * Don't merge high risk changes into dev this week * Favor activities where you are exercising code in dev, or just spend = an hour or two poking user flows in the next 3 days. * Be especially mindful of possible issues you uncover in dev that would = derail .26 (stop, investigate, try to reproduce, file a (possibly five = star) issue. thanks for listening,=20 lloyd ...

BrowserID dev: derailing train-2012.03.01
Hey All! On the first we split off train-2012.03.01 for QA, and a couple blockers = have been discovered in the train. The most interesting feature in this = train include the ability for a website to provide links to terms of = service and privacy policy that will be displayed inside the dialog. = (Full set of changes in the changelog: = https://github.com/mozilla/browserid/blob/train-2012.03.01/ChangeLog#L1-25= ) The two issues motivating the derailing are here: https://github.com/mozilla/browserid/issues/1303 https://github.com/mozilla/browserid/issues/1304 Another train ...

[PATCH] File::Path::mkpath, /dev, /dev/dir and /dev/000000 changes
While fetching GD with CPAN.PM, I ran into some problems with File::Path::mkpath, in particular with rooted logicals: $ define/job/trans=conceal root_abcd_1 disk:[perl.cpan.build.id.blah.] mkpath('/root_abcd_1/lds') fails with a "invalid parameter" error when it tries to mkdir('/root_abcd_1'). There's a test in the code for a '000000' directory, but not for the lack of a directory....I suspect that the test was put in to prevent endless loops, prior to a modification of the File::Basename code. So here's a change that does the...

playing with browserid in a world having also webid and openid (and websso generally)
At http://yorkporc.wordpress.com/2012/01/19/webid-and-blogspot-done-by-a-pr= ofessional/ I outline how someone (else=2C with lots of webby-styled enterp= rise software knowhow) tried to harmonize the openid world (centered on blo= gging=2C as the embodiment of user-centric thinking)=2C the webid world (of= machine-readable objects and https for client certs)=2C and browserid (a p= rotocol=2C and concept for browser-based vs page-based UI). =20 Its not your typical browserid read.
