Mozilla SeaMonkey and Mozilla Sunbird on U3 Smart flash drives

Hello, everyone!

My name is Valeria Zysman and I type from Buenos Aires.

Well, you'll see, there's a mobile platform for USB flash drives
called U3 Smart (http://u3.com/), which is designed by SanDisk. U3
Smart flash drives run on Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP (all versions
and service packs) and Windows Vista (all versions and service packs
as well). It is similar to PortableApps.com platform but is NOT a
PortableApps.com platform. For instance, Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla
Thunderbird U3 Smart builds update without the need of reinstall all
the whole program itself but the update. Yes, Mozilla Thunderbird also
has a Mozilla's U3 Smart official build and this works perfectly. :)

Just a few days ago Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 (en-US) has been launched
for this platform (you can read my entry on the U3 Smart official
group here: http://groups.google.com/group/u3-applications/browse_thread/th=
read/aca60e3722c04d00/).

Now I am wondering if there is a possibility to create U3 Smart builds
for Mozilla SeaMonkey 1.1.11 and Mozilla Sunbird 0.8. Could the
Mozilla's Build Team have in mind these pieces of software to have an
U3 Smart build for each one of these?

Please, consider them, because I really think U3 Smart users need that
two applications, I really do. I used Opera (there is an Opera 9.5 U3
Smart build as well, http://opera-usb.com/u3/index.htm) but I don't
like Opera any more since I felt in love with Mozilla Firefox 3. :)

Anyway, I emphasize this: I miss Mozilla SeaMonkey and Mozilla Sunbird
to take them in my pocket with all my bookmarks, events and personal
configuration. :( I need them when I'm at a cybercaf=C3=A9 near the
University. I'm quite sure you understand this situation, so please,
consider to create these builds.

If this is the place wrong to ask these things, please let me know
where I can get in touch with somebody from Mozilla's build-related
issues.

Thank you so much indeed for reading.

Have a wonderful week!

Smackers from Buenos Aires.

Firstly its normally U3 that do the work for these builds, not mozilla.

Secondly if you search around the u3 forums, you'll pretty soon find
that it can't be done for SeaMonkey 1.1.11 due to the way it does
various things - this was due to it being based on an older style of code.

SeaMonkey 2.0 will be on the newer style of code (i.e. same as Firefox
3.1 when it comes out) and should be able to work with U3.

Okay, thanks for that info, Mark.

On the one hand, let me tell you that the U3 staff had to contact
Mozilla to create an U3 Smart build for Mozilla Firefox 3, so it has
been NOT developed by U3, but Mozilla itself.

On the other hand, well, it seems like I will have to wait after
Mozilla SeaMonkey 2.0 final be released.

"The SeaMonkey project released SeaMonkey 1.0 in January 2006 and
SeaMonkey 1.1 in January 2007. Security and stability updates are
currently continuing for 1.1 only.

The next release will be a major update to previous versions and be
known as SeaMonkey 2.0, featuring lots of improvements all over the
product and is under heavy development. Currently no expected release
date has been set for this as there is still a lot of work to do, but
an alpha version should be available for testing this summer."

What a pity... :(

So, I keep hope alive on have Mozilla Sunbird running from an U3 Smart
flash drive.

Any additional commentary will be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

My only additional comment is that we did set a date for our *code
freeze* for our first alpha for SeaMonkey 2.0, the freeze date is
tuesday, and hopefully the alpha release itself won't be far behind that.

New Sunbird build or building sunbird?
Hi! The last sunbird build from Mostafa is from mid-August. A lot has happened since then. So when can we expect a new snapshot build of sunbird? If a new build isn't possible, may I then asked for build instructions to build sunbird myself. I have a mozilla build environment ready and am building firebird, thunderbird and seamonkey successfully. An example ..mozconfig would be nice. U3 (maybe) on flash drive.
Hi all, I have been given a flash drive of unknown manufacturer which has a hidden partition on it which appears as a CD drive. I don't want this hidden partition. Having done some Googling my first thought was that this was U3, so I downloaded the uninstaller and gave that a try. The uninstaller doesn't recognise the drive as a U3 drive. Is there any way of confirming how this hidden partition has been created and deleting it? Many thanks, Ed Metcalfe. Can SeaMonkey be used portably from a flash drive?
As a user who has to work across multiple computers in far different locations and on different OS's (Linux and Windows mostly) I am getting sick and tired of managing address books, email, bookmarks, plug ins etc etc for myself. I run SeaMonkey, Thunderbird, Firefox etc., each with the same settings/accounts on each of these computers but it is truly becoming a management nightmare to keep everything in sync with each other. So on a recent vacation, where everything imaginable went wrong while trying to manage email from afar, I had a small brainstorm. Would it be possibl...

Hello everybody I hope this is the right list for my question, if not, please tell me whre to go... Sometimes (often, but not always) when I open a page showing a flash, the browser starts to act somehow weird: - the "waiting-watch" shows up and remains "for ever" - when I move the window the contents of the windows/desktop don't fresh up anymore and the frame of the window stays on the screen like a "cascade" (sorry, I know my english is far away from good...) - I can't switch to another seamonkey window anymore (all open browser wind...

add ons hard drive vs flash drive

Thats usually where/when I install add ons. But, when I use my U3 flash drive at work on a different PC the addons are not showing. Its like the add ons are not actually installed on the flash drive. New SeaMonkey build machines generating localized builds
Hi localizers, I have been working on setting up new SeaMonkey build machines configured in a way that reuses much more of the same build code as Firefox as our current ones do. As of a few minutes ago, http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1-l10n/ now gets localized nightlies from those machines for all locales that build successfully. Note that those are not the official localized builds for SeaMonkey yet, but we'd like to see those new builds tested to make sure they work as well as the official ones from lastest-comm-central-l10n. ...

VS Builds, and Builds, and Builds
Hello, Has anyone else had this problem?  After a while of developing, and I go to compile, VS takes forever to build and I have to end-task it.  It's definitely after I've been working for a while, then it finally has "had it" and just takes forever to build.  It's annoying as I know its not the machine (2.8 GHZ processor and 1GB RAM).  Has anyone else experienced this problem?  By the way, I do have SP1 installed. Also, after minimizing and switching around screens, when it does this, the building icon in the status bar doesn't show.  And, for more informati...

How to do dev builds
Prior to PB 8.0 I used a test.pbl to test changes before moving into production. It was placed on top of the library list for the app. Any objects were copied into this pbl and a build was completed for user testing. With 8.0, the app target needs to be checked out to modify the library list. The other developer had to copy the new test.pbl from my machine to see the changes. Any objects the other developer needs to test had to be copied to my pc where the builds are done. This is not the best way and I'm assuming someone else has come up wiht a better solution since 8....
