CDROM 'Auto insert notification' problem, problem, problem,......

Help, Help, Help,.....

I'm trying to set up a kids' PC for their CD games.
I would like to keep the 'Auto insert notification' "ON" for ease of use,
(both theirs' and their parents ;)

The problem I'm experiencing is if the Auto insert is active, the game CD's
will continue to start multiple instances of the "Autorun.inf" as the CD is
accessed for game data. This can occur as the game is installing, starting
or during game play. It's as though the CD is being (re)inserted even though
the CDROM drive has remained closed.

The PC: win98, 233MMX, 64M, 2GB, 'older' video & sound cards
(recognized/supported by games)

In the process of elimination I have tried:
- two different CDROMs (LG 48x and Acer 8x)
- tried CDROMs as Master and Slave on secondary
- swapped cable
- installed games on 2nd PC

Any suggestions at what else I should be looking for/at ?
TIA,
tomZ

Perhaps IDE channel/IDE driver is 'forgetting' there was a CD in the drive.
Check for BIOS updates/IDE driver updates for mother board.

Try CD on other channel (primary/secondary).

That would leave, reinstalling Windows then replacing Mainboard.

Good Luck

Latest BIOS installed.
IDE driver update? Hmmmmm, I'll have to look for that (those?).
Tried the CDROM as slave on primary with same results.

Thanks for the input,

One last thought, disable any sleep mode functions.

I've gotten them straight from Intel and Via. Sis and Apollo should have
them also.

Maybe that should have been MY first thought. I now see I have "Power
Management" problems in the control panel. Doing a full reinstall now.

Thanks. I've found the IDE zip file for my m/b. Since it can "install" when
unzipped (using PowerArchiver), do I need to specify the Windows directory
or just let 'er rip?

problem setting 'maintainer' and 'urlbase'

Problem with my problem?
Hi, folks. Three days ago, I posted that Sunbird was refusing to import the ICS file from the Firefox Calendar Extension. Nobody replied, so I can only assume that one of three situations exists: 1) The file is corrupt, and no one wants to give me the bad news; 2) This is a known problem with Sunbird, but no one knows the solution; 3) Everyone is hard at work 24/7 trying to figure out the solution to my problem (LOL). I've already discovered that I can copy and paste each event from the calendar extension to Sunbird one by one. Before I devote many hours of my life to th...
