Yahoo.com/OneBox.com Up to Tricks?

Is Yahoo up to tricks to get people to sign up with to their new email
policy that charges?

I get this undeliverable message below. The message had to be
delivered because the original was mailed to a mail list through my ISP
mail server, and I received the same message back from the list. So it
had to go through when their saying it did not. I DID NOT EVEN USE MY
OLD YAHOO ACCOUNT!

Notice their message wants me to reply to them. This is analogous to
someone opening my regular United States Postal Service mail on its
delivery route, then saying BTW we think your mail did not get
delivered through your FedEx account. Your FedEx account is over
quota. Hmmm! Maybe I should check with FedEx on my quota. Duh! My
FedEx account is now defunct because I didn't want to pay for the
service that I can replace for free.

Bottom line this can only be done by someone monitoring my email
accounts at my ISP. How can this be done? How can it be stopped? Is it
reportable and to whom?

TIA!

Is the address of someone else on the mailing list, right?

I suspect this is a normal bounce message. Abu hasn't checked or emptied his
yahoo account since Yahoo lowered his quota in the last month or two, and
now his mailbox is full. So, when you send to the list, you get a message
reporting that it couldn't be delivered.

Greg,

My Yahoo account hasn't worked right since they started this "pay
for POP" a few weeks ago.
Any mail sent to it simply doesn't arrive; it doesn't bounce, it
just doesn't arrive in my inbox. Where does it go?
The only exception to above is that I *can* send mail from the
account, and replies to *that* mail makes it to my inbox.
Actually, this makes it a perfect "registration address" - I went to
"canoemail" and got another web-based addy to give out when needed.
No way I'm paying Yahoo! If I wasn't subscribed to a Yahoo group,
I'd have dropped it already.

To expand on Russ' answer; if you mail to a list, any member of the
list whose address is undeliverable will generate a bounce from the
mail server for that account. 6 members of the list; 5 might be
deliverable, but the one undeliverable address will be bounced by that
server. AFAIK, there is no human intervention at all in SMTP
transactions. They are all automated.

The bounced address was a Yahoo! address, and the bounce was generated
by the Yahoo! server. That is normal. Your own Yahoo! account is
completely irrelevant for this particular transaction.

They may be a member of the list. I am not sure whether they are or not.
On my search of my message DB there were 0 results for this address.

Normal I don't think so. The files attached to the message were messages
I sent out to the list that were somehow associated with this address.
Granted I used a Yahoo mail account previously for mail lists, but due to
the change in Yahoo's policy discontinued its use. My original messages
were NOT addressed to this address, but the list address. So how is this
normal?

So I send a email to a mail list. The mail list sends the message out to
all members. One of the members has a Yahoo account that is
undeliverable for some reason. Because my email address is in the "From"
header Yahoo SMTP server rejects the message and sends a message back to
me as being undeliverable.

This sounds reasonable, but I have been a member of one or mail list for
probably over a year or more. I am presently a member of 10 mail lists.
This is the first time I've ever received a message bounced back on one of
my messages to a mail list that was being sent out from the mail list.

You would think mail lists members' addresses would be dying on the vine
sort of speak on a regular basis for what ever reason. If you assume this
then, I'm still unconfortable about this being the first. Maybe dying on
the vine is not normal because most if not all people unsubscribe to
eliminate being hammered on messges from the list.

It just seemed strange to me given it occurred the eve of Yahoo
discontinuing their discount for Pop accessible email.

Greg

After reading both your and Norman's response, I'm not sure what normal is
which is why I inquire here.
