Subject: @RISK: The Consensus Security Vulnerability Alert Week 35 2011
 From: The SANS Institute <ConsensusSecurityVulnerabilityAlert@sans.org>
 Date sent: Thu, 25 Aug 2011 19:00:28 +0000

 <Q>

  (2) HIGH: Adobe Flash Player MP4 Handling Stack Buffer Overflow
  Affected:
Adobe Flash Player versions 10.3.181.36 and earlier for non-Android
Adobe Flash Player version 10.3.185.25 and earlier for Android

Description: Adobe has released a patch addressing a stack buffer
overflow vulnerability in its Flash Player. Flash Player determines how
much data to copy into a buffer by reading a size from an MP4 file, but
it copies that buffer into a fixed-length buffer. By enticing a target
to view a file that specifies a size larger than the size of the buffer,
an attacker can exploit this vulnerability in order to execute arbitrary
  code on the target's machine.

  Status: vendor confirmed, updates available

Thanks Randy :-)

Yes, Redhat went public on 2011-08-09 (16 days ago)
        http://www.redhat.com/security/data/cve/CVE-2011-2414.html
auto updating to:
        flash-plugin-10.3.183.5-1.el5
So, those with Redhat (and Fedora) should be already updated and secure.

Debian does not have such a public system (that I know of).
        http://wiki.debian.org/FlashPlayer
But just executing
         update-flashplugin-nonfree --install
will get your debian system updated. Mine got updated to version 11.0.1.98
        check here: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
a bit ahead and above the 10.3.183.5 recommended by adobe:
        http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-21.html

Debian (and Ubuntu users I believe) may execute every day the command above
and keep just in front of the adobe vulnerabilities wave.

Flash Player 10.3.183.7

Adobe Flash Player 10.3.183.7 addresses compatibility issues:

Calls to gotoAndPlay() and gotoAndStop() no longer fail in some Flash
applications which load shared libraries (2943612).
TextField instances which specify a negative offset (x property
contains a negative value) now correctly flow the text horizontally instead
of vertically (2941680).
Improved performance in some cases when displaying complex animations
(2941931).
MSI versions of the Flash Player Installer now properly install the
Native Settings Manager control panel on Windows (2939928).
Flash applications at certain websites (http://www.justin.tv,
http://heylenmichel.de) now load correctly (2939645, 2944081).
