Why doesn't a site open when www.site.net is entered
What reasons are there that a website would not open in the browser when you enter www.mysite.net but it will open when you enter www.mysite.net/start.aspx ? How can we change this?Thank youJackxxx In the IIS settings, you have to change the default page. By default, its stuff like index.htm, default.aspx, etc. If you want start.aspx, you'll have to add it, its simple, in the web site or virtual directory's properties. Change setting in IIS, you have to check document tab in Properties window My Blog"Don't be afraid to be wrong; otherwise you'll never be ri...

Speedguide.net shows ports open that Shield's up doesn't catch
I've been a long time user of shield's up and grateful to Steve for just as long. I have a security question. I ran another port scan from speedguide.net and it shows open ports that Shields Up didn't catch. Specifically ports 137/udp, 138/udp, 139/udp and 5000/udp (5000/tcp shows stealth on Shield's Up). Speedguide.net says the ports 137 through 139 udp are the same as 137 tcp. It also says that 5000 udp is the same as 5000 tcp. However, like Shields Up, Speedguide.net's port scan shows 5000/tcp is stealth. What is a UDP port vs. a TCP port, and how do I stea...

The 'open in new tab' button doesn't work.
Name: Graham Email: gandicaseatgmaildotcom Product: Firefox Release Candidate Summary: The 'open in new tab' button doesn't work. Comments: Hi Have been using Bets versions and hoped this annoying little bug might have been fixed, but it hasn't been. Right-click on a link and select open in new tab - the tab opens but the link doesn't! I am currently trying out Chrome and it looks to be faster at the moment than 3.5.7, so I hope this little bug can be fixed and I can 'come back to Firefox' full time! Hope this helps. Best wishes, Graham Br...

ASP.NET process identity doesn't have read permissions for GAC/Can't find path
I've had some strange problems with my computer lately... eventually got it working again after running chkdsk a few times.  Anyway, I just tried running an ASP.NET page on my PC, which I use as a test server, and I'm getting a "Server Application Unavailable" message.  When I check the event viewer, this is what I get:Event Type:    ErrorEvent Source:    ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0Event Category:    NoneEvent ID:    1089Date:        8/19/2008Time:       &nbs...

Firefox opens but doesn't open?
Doe anyone know if there is a fix yet for Firefox's maddening habit of freezing up when shutdown buy clicking on the "x"? It even does it sometimes now when I remember to use "alt-f-x" combo. When I try to re-open it, nothing opens but "processes" show it's running. The only way to get out of it is to shut down and un-power the machine for a short time. This _*really*_ sucks! :-( jetjock wrote: > Doe anyone know if there is a fix yet for Firefox's maddening habit of > freezing up when shutdown buy clicking on the "x&quo...

Directory.Delete(path, true); doesn't work (.net 1.1) and admin can't delete
Hello all.  I have a web application that creates a user temp directory, copies files into that directory, manipulates those files, sends files to the user, and then calls Directory.Delete(path, true); to delete the temp directory and all of its contents.  The problem is that this doesn't work and the directory is still there after the method call and code execution is complete.  I also can't delete the directory manually even when logged in as an Administrator.  It says 'Cannot delete <path>: Access is denied.'.  I was under the impression that specifying 'tru...

Why doesn't LIKE '%' return NULL fields in asp.net
Can somebody remind me why using LIKE '%' in an sql statement doesn't return null field in asp.net I figured this out months ago when I started with asp.net but can't find the answer I found then.  I did find that the ultimate answer is to use stored procedures with dynamic WHERE clauses. LIKE is looking to do a string comparison to get a positive match.  If no string is present (ie. Null) then no comparison is possible and no return on the row.  This is the classic three state value for a varchar column.... Null, Empty String, String Value.  If you placed an empty s...
