No. Google would be one way of finding old messages.

No. The intent was to leave the old groups on-line read only but the
server that hosts the old groups died. It is not known whether it will
be repaired or not.

Nope. First, the old server is currently inaccessible anyway, but this
was not planned either, AFAIK.

In addition to that - how will messages on this new server be searchable?
Will Google pick up these new groups, or will this server have its own
archives and search engine?

It already does - right above the forum/category list at
https://forums.codegear.com/index.jspa. Or you can specify additional
parameters at https://forums.codegear.com/search!default.jspa.

Will that be a full lifetime archive, like Gogle provides, or will it only
be for a limited amount of time?

The current plan is to keep posts forever, I believe.

Since that's what I do now, that doesn't sound like any kind of a
problem <:)

I have made a dump of the last 18000+ messages from
borland.public.delphi.language.delphi.general stored in the cache of my
newsreader, als EML files (some 30MB in total). I could upload the
archive (ZIP, 20 MB) somewhere if requested.

  (25MB, 18408 messages)
http://www.row-ware.com/other/borland-public-delphi-language-delphi-win32.zip
(15MB, 11725 messages)

BTW, I'm using Thunderbird.

Hope this helps,

You mean like how this one is labeled e.p.d.l.d.general?

Use the config editor (from the advanced preference page) to set the
mail.server.default.abbreviate preference to false. Default value is true.

http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/tips#app_expandnames

I don't know whether that will really help much, though. When I set
that, this newsgroup's name appears as embarcadero.....general, which I
think is _less_ information than the abbreviated form. Of the groups I
subscribe to, te one that shows up best is embarcadero.p...c.delphi.rtl.
Maybe you're willing to grant more horizontal space to the folder pane
than I am, so you'll find the setting more useful.

With either setting, the tool tip gives the full name, and the title bar
shows the full name of the active newsgroup.

Thanks.

Still downloading all the msg's.... doing that for 2 days now... lol

anyways... do you know if there is a setting so it will reconnect after
  a timeout?
have a msgbox coming up, with that error, and then i need to restart it..
