This procedure is a mess.

If you have a Nexus 7 (and probably others), you have to change it to act like a photo device. Then I think you can see it in Windows, and eventually in Delphi. (Even though it had been working fine in Windows 8 before that upgrade).

You have to download some additional Android files, try various things, and eventually it works (there are about 3-5 tools that show up broken until you do that). Keep digging in the help, since eventually I found things that made it work (including changing the Nexus 7 to be a photo device).

I am going through another reinstallation of XE at the moment, and I will try to keep track of what I have to do (my previous problems involved two different versions).

The other thread, probably the one I started, degenerated into discussion of how great the message boards are. <g>

XE8, Firemonkey for Android, cannot load USB driver in Windows 10
Hi, I just moved to Windows 10, and the upgrade went very well. Delphi is doing well, until I tried to work on an Android app and cannot talk to my Nexus 7. I downloaded the latest driver, double clicked on the INF file , which ran and said the driver was installed. Delphi does not see the device, and I also cannot see it in whatever MyComputer just got renamed do. Has anyone else gotten it to work, and did you have any particular challanges? Windows 10 Project Centennial with Delphi? [Edit]
With Windows 10 Microsoft is introducing serveral platform bridges (https://dev.windows.com/en-us/uwp-bridges) to allow different forms of apps into the Windows Store. I'm curious about Project Centennial which will "make it possible to package and publish your current .NET and *Win32-based Windows applications* to the Windows Store, providing a new way of distributing and monetizing your application on Windows PCs." Does anyone know if applications built with Delphi will be able to make it into the Microsoft Store? (Edit: So the "Insert link" button is broken.....

Converting Delphi 2007 Indy 10.2.3 to Delphi 2009 Indy 10.5.5 [Edit]
Hello, I am currently attempting to port over a Delphi 2007 project that uses Indy 10.2.3 (very successfully) to Delphi 2009 and Indy 10.5.5 (I just got the latest development build this morning). I think I am running into an encoding issue, but am not sure. Specifically, IDHTTP with SSL calls an old CGI and the CGI returns a .zip file and I then save it to the disk. In 2007 and before this worked perfectly. In 2009, it is not. Here is the examples of the 2 different results (though cut way short in the post) I am getting back: 2007: 'PK'#3#4#$14#0#0#0#8#0'rLQ9žrPb€'#0...

Can I Use Delphi 10 to compile for Windows 98 OS. [Edit]
Can I Use Delphi 10 to Compile for Windows 98 OS. I know its a bit out there, but I have an old Windows 98 SE industrial touchscreen PC with one of my applications running on it in Windows 98 SE. My cheapest option is to recompile my old source to run on it. I successfully complied it with Delphi 10 but when I try to run it on the Windows 98 PC it says " expects a newer version of Windows. Upgrade your Windows version". Basically upgrading this machine is near to impossible and giving them new hardware and OS will be very expensive as it is a specialist piece of hardware. ...

Windows 10 going to support Raspberry Pi 2 SoC.... Delphi/C++ Builder? [Edit]
Raspberry Foundation and Microsoft announced that Windows 10 will run on the new Raspberry Pi 2: http://www.raspberrypi.org/raspberry-pi-2-on-sale/ http://dev.windows.com/en-us/featured/raspberrypi2support Interview with Pi founder Upton: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/02/02/windows_10_raspberry_pi_2_eben_upton_interview/ Windows already run on some SoC boards (i.e Intel Galileo), and it looks Windows 10 will expand to more devices for its IoT support. Now that Google Glasses have been shelved, what are Embarcadero plans to support this (relatively) "new" class of ...

Does Delphi XE5 on Android work with the Android emulator? [Edit]
I find that even a hello-world app exactly like the one that David I outlines (add a button, one line of code, set button text) will not run on the Android Emulator configured out of the box. First, after installing the Rad Studio XE5 trial, I followed David I's steps exactly, and the emulator would not even start. Then I clicked Android SDK manager, updated it, and clicked run-without-debugging. It asked me if I wanted to start the emulator this time so I did. Now the Firemonkey app will not start up the emulator, and while it does appear to start debugging, the emulator scree...

Get the fat out from XE5 Android apps
In the modern mobile OSes (like iOS and Android) the applications are run into a sandbox for more control, security and performance reasons and there are no (easy) ways to separate/use a "runtime" library (in Delphi's case RTL + FireMonkey) to be shared by multiple apps. This problem is common to all mobile x-plat runtimes/wrappers like Adobe AIR (http://www.adobe.com/products/air.html) or Mono (http://www.mono-project.com). In Delphi's case the problem with the increasingly fat apps (statically linking RTL + FireMonkey to the application binary) comes from the non-optimi...

Windows 10 and Delphi
So, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfveyXCsiA8 WinRT may not be called WinRT but "Windows Store Apps" are not going away. Microsoft has been pushing and continues to push their Universal Apps as the first-class way to build software for Windows going forward, and it is now obvious that they are not limited to tablet-ey devices and will be front-and-center on the desktop (in windows, yay). Windows Phone may never amount to much from a market share standpoint but "Windows Store" already does. When it comes to consumer-level stuff, it's reasonable to th...

Direct3D 10, 10.1 and 11, Direct2D 1, DirectWrite and DXGI for Delphi [Edit]
Dear all, I've just translated the Direct3D 10+10.1+11 and Direct3DX 10+11 C++ header files to Delphi interface units, as well as Direct2D1, DirectWrite and DXGI. They are based on the August 2009 DirectX SDK (released 8th Sept 2009). You can find them via my "DirectX For Delphi" blog at http://directxfordelphi.blogspot.com/. Feel free to download, test and use them. Also, please advise how I might go about making these visible on the internet so as to help as many people as possible. I am entirely out of the Delphi community scene, yet I use Delphi 24/7 as a vital part ...

Delphi 7 won't start up anymore on Windows 7 (except in Windows safe mode) [Edit]
I'm using Delphi 7 PE under Windows 7 Home Edition. Since four days Delphi will not start anymore. When I start, I see an entry "delph32.exe" in the Windows Task Manager (process tab, not application tab) but this will disappear sillently after some seconds. No error or warning message is given. I tried several things already, after searching the internet for a solution: - start delphi in comptability mode - start delphi as administrator - give full right on the installation directory of delphi - disable UAC - restore windows to the previous restore point None of ...
