ADOCommand - Arguments are the wrong type

1 ) Create a table in MS.SqlServer:

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[FechamentoCartaoPontoMov](
	[OIDFechamentoCartaoPontoMov] [char](12) NOT NULL,
	[OIDDocumento] [char](12) NULL,
	[OIDResponsavel] [char](12) NULL,
	[OIDFuncionario] [char](12) NULL,
	[OIDEventoFolha] [char](12) NULL,
	[ValorReferencia] [numeric](6, 2) NULL,
	[Valor] [numeric](16, 2) NULL,
	[IndInformarValor] [char](1) NULL,
	[ValorOvr] [numeric](16, 2) NULL,
	[ValorReferenciaOvr] [numeric](6, 2) NULL,
	[DtHoraAlteracao] [datetime] NULL)

2) Create AdoConnection with "Microsoft Ole DB Provider for Sql Server"

3) Put ADOCommand and connect to ADOConnection

4) ON ADOCommand CommandText put this:

INSERT INTO FechamentoCartaoPontoMov
           (OIDFechamentoCartaoPontoMov
           ,OIDDocumento
           ,OIDResponsavel
           ,OIDFuncionario
           ,OIDEventoFolha
           ,ValorReferencia
           ,Valor
           ,IndInformarValor
           ,ValorOvr
           ,ValorReferenciaOvr
           ,DtHoraAlteracao)
     VALUES
           (:OIDFechamentoCartaoPontoMov ,
           ,:OIDDocumento ,
           ,:OIDResponsavel,
           ,:OIDFuncionario,
           ,:OIDEventoFolha ,
           ,:ValorReferencia,
           ,:Valor ,
           ,:IndInformarValor,
           ,:ValorOvr,
           ,:ValorReferenciaOvr ,
           ,:DtHoraAlteracao)

5) Create a button with the code:

 with adocommand1 do
  begin
    Parameters.ParamByName('OIDFechamentoCartaoPontoMov').Value :=  '1';
    Parameters.ParamByName('OIDDocumento').Value :=  '1';
    Parameters.ParamByName('OIDResponsavel').Value :='1';
    Parameters.ParamByName('OIDFuncionario').Value := '1';
    Parameters.ParamByName('OIDEventoFolha').Value :=  '1';
    Parameters.ParamByName('IndInformarValor').Value := '1';
    Parameters.ParamByName('Valor').Value :=  9 ;
    Parameters.ParamByName('ValorReferencia').Value := 9;

    Parameters.ParamByName('ValorOvr').Value :=  9;
    Parameters.ParamByName('ValorReferenciaOvr').Value := 9;
    Parameters.ParamByName('DtHoraAlteracao').Value := now;
    Execute;

  end;

6 ) Execute the program, click button and the error is displayed. This error not occur on previous releases of Delphi.

Error Message: "Arguments are the wrong type, are out of accetable range, or are in conflict with one another"

All Parameters are now of datatype: ftUnknow.

Try using AdoCommand1.Params.CreateParam for each of your parameters before you assign values.

It works fine for me if I remove the extra commas in the value list.
However I do not get the same error as you do if I leave the commas in
the text. I get "Incorrect syntax near ','"
You did not say which delphi version had the problem. I Tested with D2007.

I reproduce the error on Delphi 2009 Trial (without the extra commas), on Delphi 2007 works fine.

I have recreated this i D2009. The problem is with the numeric parameters. I tried to change those to int instead and everything is fine.

In D2007 the numeric parameters have DataType ftBCD and in D2009 they have DataType ftFMTBcd.
I have no idea why and if you try to change to ftBCD in object inspector it automatically changes back to ftFMTBcd.

If you use ? instead of :ParamName in CommandText the DataType will be ftBCD and it will work,
The names of the parameters will be Param1, Param2 etc but you can change that in the object inspector after the parameter list is generated.

I can´t use this because is this just one example. I have a system with thousands of queries like this...

I try use the dbxconnection and sqlquery and the the problem is the same.

I think that codegear change the way the parameter is created.

i can´t upgrade my software to delphi 2009...

The bug is in ADODB.pas where in TParameter.SetDataType it uses an array to
convert from a TDataType (aka TFieldType) to an ado type enumeration. The
DataTypeValues array has adEmpty for the ftFMTBcd field type which is wrong.
In Delphi 2009 the ADODB code was changed to use ftFMTBcd for adCurrency ADO
field/parameter types. The DataTypeValues array needs to be fixed.

CodeGear needs to replace this:

  DataTypeValues: array[TDataType] of TOleEnum = (
    adEmpty, adVarChar, adSmallint, adInteger, adUnsignedSmallint, // 0..4
    adBoolean, adDouble, adDouble, adCurrency, adDate, adDate, // 5..10
    adDate, adBinary, adVarBinary, adInteger, adLongVarBinary, // 11..15
    adLongVarChar, adLongVarBinary, adLongVarBinary, adLongVarBinary,
//16..19
    adLongVarBinary, adLongVarBinary, adEmpty, adChar, adVarWChar, adBigInt,
// 20..25
    adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adVariant, //
26..32
    adIUnknown, adIDispatch, adGuid, adEmpty, adEmpty, // 33..37
    adWChar, adLongVarWChar, adEmpty, adEmpty, // 38..41
    adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty); //42..48

with this:

  DataTypeValues: array[TDataType] of TOleEnum = (
    adEmpty, adVarChar, adSmallint, adInteger, adUnsignedSmallint, // 0..4
    adBoolean, adDouble, adDouble, adCurrency, adDate, adDate, // 5..10
    adDate, adBinary, adVarBinary, adInteger, adLongVarBinary, // 11..15
    adLongVarChar, adLongVarBinary, adLongVarBinary, adLongVarBinary,
//16..19
    adLongVarBinary, adLongVarBinary, adEmpty, adChar, adVarWChar, adBigInt,
// 20..25
    adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adVariant, //
26..32
    adIUnknown, adIDispatch, adGuid, adEmpty, adCurrency, // 33..37
    adWChar, adLongVarWChar, adEmpty, adEmpty, // 38..41
    adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty, adEmpty); //42..48

Has anyone created a QC entry for this bug in Delphi 2009? It is a
show-stopper for our code which uses dbGo and uses thousands of
parameterized queries for numeric column types.

I just replaced the given string in ADODB.pas, and the error still brings everytime i try to open a form referencing a ftFMTBcd data type.
I'm running Delphi 2009.

ASA7, ADO and Delphi
Hello! I've got a problem with accessing a database via ADO with Delphi 5. Everytime I set the ADOConnection active I get the error "Invalid enum value". I'm using Delphi 5 Enterprise and ASA7 with EBF #449. Is there anybody who ever get an ADOConnection to ASA7 with Delphi 5? Gruesse, Matthias I'm using C++ Builder 5 and get the same problem. I've asked this question before and no one seems to be able to respond... Matthias Hovestadt wrote: > Hello! > > I've got a problem with accessing a database via ADO > with Delp...
