Transfering tables and data from one MS SQL DB to another MS SQL DB

I need to transfer tables and data from one SQL DB to another SQL DB. I know it can be done with Server Management Studio and I have searched Studio and Help but can't find any info on the database migration wizard.

jayd_21,

right click on database name, tasks, import data, and follow the wizard. if using express version, maybe you have to install aditional toolkit for that

Hi,

Yes as you said we can use Management Studio for importing and Exporting the data between database on same/different servers.

With in the Management Studio, Right click on the Database -> Select Tasks -> Select Export Data... (If it is on Destination Database, Select Import Data...)

still if you are not able to get it, you can open the same from:

go to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn\" and click the "DTSWizard.exe" to open the "SQL Server Import/Export Wizard".

Now just you have to follow the steps in the wizard for import/export the data.

There is no DTS folder or DTSWizard.exe. Can this be added to Express version?

I use the following to move database from one SQL Server to another (as a manual process).

1. Create a backup of the database.

2. On the server we need to transfer run a script to create a database (just the database, nothing else)

3. Use Restore Database option and check Override (first checkbox) in Options.

------------------------------------

Following these simple steps will create a copy of your database in another server.

Beware of bugs in the above code; I have only proved it correct, not tried it.

PIPELINE - PB10
Hello All, We are converting our PB apps to version 10. Thanks to the posts on this site we have been successful setting OLE DB connections and everything appeared to be working fine. I just noticed that at least one of my pipes is not working correctly. It is truncating 1 character off of a field. This worked fine when we were going from sql 7 to sql 7 but when I connect to one server running ms sql 7 and the other using ms sql 2000 using a data pipe in PB 10 it is cutting off a char??? This one blows my mind because there is no script??? We had to make changes to trim s...

FYI - Interesting difference between Oracle SQL and MS SQL
While converting some code from T-SQL to PL/SQL, I ran across an interesting bit of MS SQL code.  The code looked odd to me so I did a quick experiment to prove what it did.  I was quite surprised by the MS SQL results! In ORACLE: create table testunion (aaa number); insert into testunionselect 2 from dualunion select aaa * aaa from testunion;  select * from testunion;  -- Returns one record, as it should, "2" delete testunion; insert into testunionselect 2 from dualunion allselect aaa * aaa from testunion; select * from testunion; -- Returns one record, ...

transfer data between SQL anywhere and MS SQL server
Any good, fast, easy method, please suggest. I have 2 identical DB in SQL anywhere and in MS SQL server, which including about 100 table. How can I transfer the data between these 2 DBMS system?? Pipeline is not a good idea, because it can transfer 1 table at 1 time. I don't mind to write a small program to do that, but I do not want hard code the field name in the program because the file structure required to be changed later. Thanks in advance. I do this by creating datawindows dynamically, exporting out the data to text then importing data to the database using the...

Converting db from SQL Anywhere 5 to MS SQL Server 7
I have converted a SQL Anywhere 5 database to MS SQL Server 7 database. When the tables are converted are the primary key, foreign keys and indexes brought over to MS SQL Server 7 or do they all have to be recreated in the coverted tables? If they have to be recreated, is there a simple way to do it? Thanks, Sheldon Thompson How did you perform the migration? If you extracted the SQL schema for the tables, it should have included the indices in the SQL script. First thing is to use the admin tool and check to see if the indices were created.
