PDF File Download Not opening in Adobe Professional

Hello,

I have created a pdf download page and works absolutely fine until now :). I have a client and the are using Adobe Professional 6.0. All the PDF documents they open from web open correctly in the application. But since i believe i a using custom download, it does not kick in.

Two scenarios:

1. On some windows machines it kicks the Adobe Professional 6.0 application but generates an error 0xc000005 ...

2. On other windows machines it pops up as unknown file type.

If they try to open it on a machine which has Adobe Reader, they can open the pdf correctly. So i believe the issue is with Adobe Professional.

I have attached the code. Can someone please explain why this could happen?

The code is placed in the Page Load event:

If

Not IsPostBack Then

' READ THE FILE FROM THE DATABASE RECORD

' ======================================

Dim recordID As Integer

recordID =

CInt(Request.QueryString("ID"))

Dim MyData() As Byte

MyData = GetAttachmentFromDatabase(

"Memos", recordID)

Response.Clear()

Response.AddHeader(

"Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=Memo" + CStr(recordID))

Response.AddHeader(

"Content-Length", MyData.Length.ToString())

Response.ContentType =

"application/pdf"

Response.BinaryWrite(MyData)

Response.Flush()

Response.Close()

MyData =

Nothing

End If

THANKS,
imran.

I had similar issue. I doubt if this post will help, but you never know.

I ended up telling the project manager this:

Issue(s)
  • I was unable to download pdfs from SQLSVR in the application. Based on research, it looks like a third party software, not .net, is needed to download pdfs. I commented out the code since it didn't make sense to upload a document that can't be downloaded.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I believe it is an issue with Adobe 6.0 Professional. I did test the functionality of Adobe Professional 7.0 and 8.0 and it worked fine.

Cheers,

Imran.

Downloading pdf files and Adobe Reader
I've been downloading some pdf files on Reloading from Dillon Precision. http://www.dillonprecision.com/ They set it up as a page by page thing and the pages are about 2.5 MB each as pdf. Questions: Is there a way to speed this up (w/o going to DSL - I'm on dial-up) ? Is there an Adobe Reader plug-in that would speed up things? Problem getting Adobe to automatically open a file
Am using PB10 and Adbobe 6 - am attempting to programatically open a file. In script, I have typed Run("Programs\Adobe\adobe.exe ls_docname"). Adobe tells me that it cannot find the file, even tho the path to the file is in the variable. Can you feed a filename in a variable to Adobe, and have it automatically open the file? If so, how. I answered your question in the ole-ocx-activex group: "Take the variable out of the string: Run("C:\Adobe\Adobe.exe " + ls_docname)" Brad William wrote: > Am using PB10 and Adbobe 6 - am attempting to...
