Hi,

 Try put this into your updatepanel

<asp:UpdateProgress ID="UpdateProgress1" runat="server">

<ProgressTemplate>

<iframe frameborder="0" src="about:blank" style="border:0px;position:absolute;z-index:9;left:0px;top:0px;width:expression(this.offsetParent.scrollWidth);height:expression(this.offsetParent.scrollHeight);filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(Opacity=65, FinishOpacity=0, Style=0, StartX=0, FinishX=100, StartY=0, FinishY=100);"></iframe>

<div style="font-family: Arial;font-size: 12px;position:absolute;z-index:10;left:expression((this.offsetParent.clientWidth/2)-(this.clientWidth/2)+this.offsetParent.scrollLeft);top:expression((this.offsetParent.clientHeight/2)-(this.clientHeight/2)+this.offsetParent.scrollTop);">

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="150" height="50" style="background-color:#FCFCFC" ><tr><td width="13px">&nbsp;</td><td valign="middle" align="center"><img src="~/../images/loader.gif" /></td><td valign="middle" style="font-family: Arial;font-size: 12px;">Please Wait ......</td></tr></table>

</div>

</ProgressTemplate>

</asp:UpdateProgress>

 This will do the effect you want when you perform operation withen updatepanel.

you can do something like the following using an updatepanel animation extender (place the extender outside your update panel and try the following)

<ajaxToolkit:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender ID="ae"
  runat="server" TargetControlID="up">
     <Animations>
        <OnUpdating>
		<FadeOut Duration=".5" Fps="20" />
	</OnUpdating>
        <OnUpdated>
		<FadeIn Duration=".5" Fps="20" />
	</OnUpdated>
    </Animations>
</ajaxToolkit:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender>

When an update fires and the update progress is triggered, there are a few javascript events that can be subscribed to to handle what you want to do.  This information can be found in the ajax documentation http://ajax.asp.net/docs/tutorials/ProgrammingUpdateProgress.aspx.

<script language="javascript">

var prm = Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance();

prm.add_initializeRequest(InitializeRequest);
prm.add_endRequest(EndRequest);
var postBackElement;

//fired when the update starts
function InitializeRequest(sender, args) {
    postBackElement = args.get_postBackElement();
    //Hide your update panel here.
}

//fired when the update ends
function EndRequest(sender, args) {
    //Show your update panel here
}

</script>

Try that.

Updates Updates Updates
I was a big fan of Firefox.. Now, I don't even like to use it. Seems like every time I start it up I have to update some addin OR the browser itself. And unfortunately the update nag messages are always presented when I start a browsing session. I find this annoying because, typically, when I open a web browser all I want to do is go to a web page. Not update the browser. I can agree that staying current with the latest version could give the best, fastest, safest web experience. But that point becomes mute when I start off every other browsing session with a new update. And mos...

Having an issue using JavaScript to update an Update Panel with Multiple Update Panels
I am using JavaScript via the '__doPostBack' command passing in the 'ClientID' of my UpdatePanel to do a partial page postback.  This fires the UpdatePanel_PreRender event (or any other UpdatePanel event) where I run server side code. The actual partial page postback is working as expected, but since partial postbacks follow the full page lifecycle, ALL of my UpdatePanel events are firing which I do not want.  What ends up happening is the code in the other UpdatePanel '_PreRender' event is being called too which I do not want to occur. Is there a way aroun...

Update Panel in a panel
I have a search form in a panel.  I have the form in a update panel so that when certain validation error messages are displayed the whole page doesn't flash.  After the user submits the form with valid search criteria, I am hiding the panel, and showing another panel that displays search results.  Doing this without the update panel works fine, when I add the udpate panel and then try to hide the regular panel, it doesn't work.  I am hiding the panel by: adding a style display/none.  Any thoughts on this? Serena, I've had a lot of success simply setti...

This sounds okay to me.(I did this with IE)When I run the same page in Opera browser then it also runs the page load stuff (this means that the update panel - the Atlas functionality - does not work). I also don't see my update progress icon.Can somebody tell me if this is okay?And what is the browser support of Atlas?And finanly, will there be a new version of Atlas in September?Thanks!Please remember to 'Mark as Answer' if this post answ...

Update Progress & Hiding Updating Content
I have a FormView wrapped in an UpdatePanel which is used to insert new records into the database. When a new record is being inserted, I use an UpdateProgress control to show an animated gif, letting the user know that something is happening. Once the insert is complete, the FormView disappears and a message indicating the record was inserted. This works fine, but what I'd really like to do is hide the FormView during the insert and only display the gif. Then, once the insert is over, display either the message (if the insert was successful) or the FormView again (if the insert failed)....
