I am going to (try to) convert the survey module from IBS. xpdit is going to send me the code and I'll see what I can do.

Module Name: Survey
Module Function: Not sure, I haven't seen the original work and haven't looked at the code. I'm guessing it allows you to create surveys and track responses from users.
URL: WIP. I'll update this once I'm done.
IBSW Version Compatiblety: 1.0.4 (once I get it installed!)
Additional Notes: None yet.

What's the best way to post a BIG revision? For example, I have written three updates.

1) Converts the page layout to three rows with three columns each, for more flexible tab page layout.
2) Turn off and on the plus/minus icon to collapse and expand an individual module. Set a module to be collapsed or expanded by default. Set to expanded automatically when the plus/minus icon is shut off.
3) Turns on the borders of the layout table on the page when logged in as an admin. A checkbox toggles between admin view and user view without logging out. The admin can see the results of changes without logging out.
The first two are particularly big because they involve database table and stored procedure upgrades, besides HTML and codebehind revisions. These would be more appropriate as updates, rather than module submissions.

If you want the surveys module I can provide it for you. We have it implemented in IBSW. It does present some of its own challenges: specifically how do edits etc of questions span multiple pages?

We have added a new feature called "maximize screen" to the portal. It allows us to have a module on a tab which can taker up the whole tab if you programatically set its maximize state. It is essentially the same as the edit module but it allows us the functional difference and it also facilitates the portal to look as if it is funtioning normally.
If you want to use the surveys module we have added then let me know.

Module Name = IBSW Image Gallery

Module Function = Image / Movie Gallery based on David Barrett / njNet code
URL = TBA
IBSW Version = Tested in 1.0.2 but should work in 1.0.4
Add Notes = I'm a little delete code away from making this module work really nice in IBSW. Unlike the original, it now supports multiple modules per tab with unlimited images / movies per module and each module shows only the images associated with the moduleID. Images in each module are added to total space used and show up in the file manager.

Module Name: StyleSheet Editor v0.1

Module Function: Hopefully the basis for the new Stylesheet Editor in the framework.
-Added several new styles and changed the layout a bit to allow for many
more.
-Added Ability to Create new Styles
Currently runs as a standalone Module
IBSW Version Compatibility: v1.0.4 Completely
Additional Notes: TODO: Add Ability to Delete Style & Move to be a SubTab of Admin Tab

Enhanced Page Options v0.1
(Original Page Options by: Scott Walsh)
Module Function: Add Options to your website, including:
Add To Favorites / Tell A Friend / Print This Page / Rate This Page
Each Option can be turned on / off seperately per module.
IBSW Version Compatibility: v1.0.4 Completely
Additional Notes: TODO: Fix the alignment a bit and add Styles

Module Name: MODIFICATION to 'ManageTabs' Files
-Brought back the original 'Organize Modules' functions.
IBSW Version Compatibility: v1.0.4 - Just dump over your existing files
Additional Notes: Main reason for doing this was so if a Module 'breaks' you can go to the Admin -> Tabs -> Edit Tab -> Remove the broken module. Also helps if your having problems moving a module to the right position/have a lot of modules on 1 page or have a module with no 'desktopmoduletitle' file..

Hey drush,

Just curious...what does this provide that the IBSW base code doesn't already provide. It already has a password reminder, and the ability for an authenticated user to change his/her password.

Hey Zonehenge,

Good idea for an adjusted announcements article. Couple of bugs though. I haven't had time to actually look at the code, just test it real quick. First, when you click on the external image button, it still allows me to access the internal image dropdown and I can't enter anything into the external image textbox. Second, the dropdown for internal images should only show image files. Right now it shows all files. Also, you might consider putting vertical and horizontal spacing around the pic to avoid crowding it.
Shouldn't take much to fix.
Thanks,
Scott

Thanks for the feedback; you were right on all accounts.
I have made the needed changes and have updated the download site.
Please let me know if you find anything else.
PS
Do to your feedback I also found an additional bug, the external image URL could only be 50 characters. I have increased that to 500 (you never know how long a URL may be).

I've also looked into the News Article Control and think that it could be quite useful. Two things I would like to see changed:

1) Make the Expiration Optional (pretty easy if it is the same as Announcements code, I made this change there by adding a Row ID to the Expires row, and a new checkbox to decide if it expires or not.
2) If no picture is choosen, then it shouldn't show the 'missing image' icon, but just act like the Announcements module..

I agree, the expiration date should be optional. Just check if the value coming back is DBNull.Value -- the edit module throws an error if you cleared the expiration date when you create one (and you can save them with no problem).

Also, since the news story itself can contain HTML, how about using the rich text editor that's used in the HTML module?
Other than that, great work! I can put this to use in my portal right away!

Since the Image Display issue is considered a bug in my opinion, I have fixed that and it is now available for download. Here is a list of upcoming features:
1) Make the Expiration Optional
2) Integrate HTLM mode for WYSIWYG editing
3) ExpirationExceptionRoleList - a list of roles that can always see this article regardless of expiration date.
Let me know if you can think of anything to add.

Module Name: Advanced File Manager

Module Function: Provide advanced file management functions for the Administrator and any other module which needs file selection capability.
URL to Module: Not Ready Yet
IBSW Version Compatibility: Conforms to 1.0.4 Design Guidelines
Additional Notes:
I currently have the code working in a sample aspx module.

http://www.theaccidentalgeek.com/Portals/900b79c0-2f41-4d5a-904a-82a533f5e3a1/FileManager.gif
I am currently working on porting it to the IBSW module format.
One issue that I would like to get feedback on is whether there is any necessary functionality provided by the database. All of the information for a given file that is stored in the database can be derived from the actual file itself. The total size of all files stored for a portal can be determined from the directoryinfo object.
If I don't have to keep the database in synch with the file structure it would make the code much simpler and cleaner.
The code currently has the following capability:
1) Traverse directories anywhere below a root directory. The root directory is configurable. At no time can a user traverse a directory above the root for the web site (in other words all files must be stored in the website directory tree).
2) View list of files in the current directory
3) Simple file viewer for text and image files (might be expanded later to include a file editor. Perfect for maintaining CSS :-) )
4) Delete file/directory
5) Create Directory
6) Upload File
7) Rename file/directory
Once the module is complete, I would like to work on replacing the current file selection comboboxes with a popup like that used in the HTML editor for file selection. This would allow people to create a more robust directory structure for file contents rather than all files being stored in one directory on the server.

Module Function: Provide Dynamic Help for the Portal, Template, Skin, and UserRole you are in.
URL to Module: xpdit.com when finished (should be imbedded within DNN in the 1.0.6 release)

I have about 15 modules ready to go. Some still need some help in the finite details of full compatibility with logic / db stuff etc.

but I will be posting them to the control gallery here at asp.net
for the last month or so I have been giving free unlimited access to these from xpdit.com
I have decided to turn to a subscription module for premium content, including a steadily growing collection of skins, templates, and of course, my modules.
now I am very interested in this community, it seems to have been tested enough to prove to me that it is what I have been looking for for a long time. I respect and consider you all friends. I do not at all think or beleive that we are here at this forum, and in this group to rip off, mislead, or expliot each others future prospects but I can also not afford (as I am sure the rest will agree) to just trust that it is all "Blue skies and Sun shine " either.
so I am very glad that this DNN is being legally organized as an open source movement with considerations for each developers rights and use of their materials within the DNN.
cheers guys, I love it.
So, I am going to make a huge effort to maintain a well diverse and tested control gallery at ASP.NET, so we can all benefit greatly from these acheivements.
I WILL be posting some controls and modules that I have proprietary rights and creation of. I will also recommend any other developers to do the same with their materials. I want to succeed at least enough to pay some minor bills, and afford certain "nice things" like rent and DSL etc.. :) I figure with all the time and value added I give to this community, that should be an easy request.
I do realize that the cost of these addons amounts to a great expense esp when the code is changing and requires updates. That is why I have still decided to continue with the control gallery at xpdit.com where a 25$ a year subscription will allow you full access to the bug fixes, collection of updates, modules, compatibility upgrades, etc and versioning for these things. This is a nominal fee and would provide access to updates only, the original code for these modules will still cost an initial amount, what ever version it may be.
I do modify things to adapt to my needs, from open modules that are floating around, many of which I have helped to popularize. If you are a developer that thinks that I may be using your code without the proper considerations/gratuities/permissions PLEASE let me know personally and not threateningly and I will immediately do the best I can to remedy the situation so you are comfortable with how this works.
I am here for all of us, please understand that.
I do beleive that this is a proper way to go about it. IF this cannot work, I may have to consider spending less time on the community related events, but I really really want to help by focusing on these events with DNN.
God bless and please let me know what you think about this.

I think this is a great ideal.

Let me make sure I got this right, you sell the modules and then if they want updates in the future they can subscribe to your site and get updates for any modules they purchased?
That sounds like a plan. People developing modules need to eat to I understand, what I do not understand is how they can afford to eat with out selling what they write. May be I am missing something on that, but what you said xpdit, really makes sense.

Hey Xpdit,

I totally understand where you're coming from. I have no problem purchasing modules for a fair price. This can be an incentive to people to build compatible and powerful new mods. I think you have to be conscious of the fact that alot of us are in the same boat when coming up with your pricing, i.e. not gonna buy many $100 mods. The cool thing is that some people will focus on building mods, and others will make their money other ways. I think we do need to remember as we market mods that they are no good without a powerful code base and as we do well, we need to remember to share the wealth with Shaun to keep this going.

I've been following this post a little and there's a couple of things I don't understand. I would purchase modules from anyone as long as they met my purpose. I just don't understand why someone would want to purchase a module and then pay another fee just to recieve support. I'm sure most of the people here could update the code themselves, but I guess if you did not want to do any coding then it would be okay.

My feeling on a subscription based site is that it would have to provide some value to me besides just modules to download or I could just buy the initial module and then just modify it to meet my needs. A subscription based site would need to provide articles, howtos, etc.. of information I could not get somewhere else by just navigating to a site I found on Google.
History has shown that not many subscription based sites generate any real income for the owner. Alot of big companies have tried it and decided against the practice. But there have been some successes, like Tech Republic. Tech Republic has thousands of free articles, template, etc.. that any one can access if you have any account, then they have another section of stuff that is just for subscribers. But they also have a full staff of writers and researchers to keep all this content fresh.
Its my opinion that the best way to generate revenue on the web is to sell advertising space, while not as fruitful as it once was, it can still generate a good amount of revenue for the site owner. Of course you have to be able to prove that you have the traffic. And 300 users over a month is not going to do that. Of course there are always the affilate programs than anyone with a web site can join. Comission Junction is probably the leader in this area as you can sign up with Cj.com and participate with hundreds of advetisers that will pay you sometimes for just a lead. I think Ebay still pays $4.00 for a new user and .05 per bid. Tech Republic was paying a $1.00 for each user that signed up. That's how they got so many users in such a short time. I know they payed me several thousand dollars a few years ago just for a few links built into a certification site I was running and had not updated in months. Of course at the time my site was getting around two thousand unique visitors a week. That's not a lot by web standards, but pretty good for a personal site.
Amazon pays its affilates 15% on direct linked items and any where from 2.5% to 5% for other items bought from a user that follows one of your links to their site and makes a purchase.
Someone may ask why I'm typing all this. The reason is that I always hear of individuals wanting to make a profit, but I never see any one trying to take advantage of the advertising opporitunties available on the web. I was just not sure everyone is aware of this, so I thought I would share. You won't get rich utilizing these programs, but if managed properly they can take care of the associated hosting fees, etc. which come with managing your own site. Do it right you can even put some decent money in your pocket.

I have developed a skinning solution for 1.0.4. It dynamically renders the banner and footer for your portal from a Skins table and uses a different style sheet for each theme. Performance is really fast and its really easy to create a new skin. you just make upo the html in your fave editor then paste the html into the db in pieces and copy the images to the server.

The way we have it now is that you select a theme and a colour and it skins your site. Next thing is to skin the whole page so you can place the controls anywhere on the page. Currently the banner and footer are dynamic. You dont need to show all the controls either!
Once 1.0.5 is released I will update it for that version and relese as an update.
You can see our site here nexxus.com.au
the skin is anodised blue.

Donate heavily to shaun and kenny, I agree. The codebase is strong as we are and vice versa.

I think that the pricing of modules should be fairly broad in range, and most I would not consider to be worth more than 10 to 20$. as we have seen from IBS in the past though, things can rapidly get to 100 - 300 $ pretty quickly. But that would be for a complex system, like the XPDIT StoreFront or something else similar. I also beleive that these complex systems that are based off the DNN as a framework, should strive to maintain a Unique NameSpace, so there is no overlapping in code, viewstate params, stored procs, and tables.
This is a valid issue and a great concern of mine.
I would like to suggest to kenny to start a new pinned post, which is maintained, of the namespaces that are taken by certain modules.
In reality, this kind of stuff should rapidly migrate to a managed database table for compatible modules, so it can all be documented. I would enjoy this task, as I am working on the dynamic help file mod, which will read help file templates for every mod, and place them into the help folder. then we are looking also at placing links on each topic as it is shown in the website, roles based of course so admins see different help than reg.users.
etc.
hang on tight, here comes DOTNETNUKE !

I was excited to see someone has taken this initiative. This is and important part of managing a site and giving access to user. I am very interested in this effort. Unfortunately, I don't have the expertise to help in developing this module. However, I can help in testing and provide feedback.

Please keep me posted and let me if I can help.

What if in the module display we could just display the title, and maybe the first 50 - 100 characters, with a more button to read the whole news story?

That is a great suggestion!
I was thinking last night, if the article is muck more that a headline, it is going to get messy. You are a genius!!!
I plan to working on this tomorrow and add the following:
1) Make the Expiration Optional
2) Integrate the ability to choose HTLM mode for WYSIWYG editing or the standard text boxes (as it is now).
3) Display a chosen number of characters (let the user define this number) then have a “More Info” button to expand the whole article inline within the page (select).
Later I plan on adding:
ExpirationExceptionRoleList - a list of roles that can choose to see this archived article which have been moved to the ArticleArchive table (to be added). This would allow the ExpirationExceptionRoleList to choose to see the archive, but not be forced to wade through it every time they view the page.
Also, by moving the Expired information to the ArticleArchive table, we will reduce the number of records parsed on each request, thus producing greater efficiency.

Robert,

Can you make it be words instead of characters? Or better yet, offer a separate "teaser" textbox that you can type an abstract or synopsis, then a full body textbox where the entire news item can be entered.

Bonder,
I am considering the textbox idea.
Here are my thoughts; I can leave the module just as it is and simply add the FreeTexBox control, a standard textbox control, a selection radial (to choose WYSIWYG or Text), and then the select panel.
The reason I was thinking number of characters is that you would not need to do work twice. I.e. you will need to copy some text from the main article to the "Teaser" section.
However, I agree that this is a small step to guarantee the teaser will contain what you want.

Zonehenge, why not add both? A Teaser box option and a number of characters/words option. You could have a default value of 'x' # of words of the original document or if someone wanted to take the time to create a summery 'teaser' they would have that option also.

That may be an option. I started the rewrite last night and am about three quarters of the way there. I will release this build as beta and let you guys check it out. If you still think the addition of the character number is needed, I will add it in. (I don’t think it will be needed as it is not hard to copy the first paragraph in as the teaser).
This will also allow for some general feedback to smooth and polish the edges.

Zonehenge,

Great! Maybe even a "copy" button that would call a tiny javascript routine that will copy the teaser down into the body.
My experience with news sites is that the teaser is not the lead-in paragraph, but more of a promotional bit of text that gets you to select the news article.
But that's just me. ;-)

With no further ado:

Module Name: News Article Module V2.0 Beta
Module Function: This is an Updated version of the News Article module (see description below). This module offers all of the features of its predecessor with the following improvements:
You can choose between "HTML WYSIWYG" or "Plain Text" editing of the article body, the Expression Date is now Optional, and Expandable Article Content (i.e. the article displays a headline by default, then when you click "Read More..." the whole article will be displayed, then you can click Collapse to go back to just a Headline).
The News Article Control offers an image with wrapped text including Title, Author (or Reporter), Article Content, and More info link. The image can be displayed on the right or left of the text, and there are three sizes to choose from (small-50px, medium-100px, and large-150px).
URL to Module: Download Here
IBSW Version Compatibility: 1.0.2, 1.0.3, 1.0.4, and MyDotNetNuke Beta 2
NOTE: You can install this module into DotNetNuke v1.0.5 if you first rename the Namespace to DotNetNuke.
Additional Notes:
I welcome any improvements that are made and do ask that you share those improvements with the community and me. I would be happy to make them available on my server if need.
============================================================================
Please try the new module and let me know of any bugs you find, or functionality that needs to be added.
============================================================================
PS
The Optional Date functionality is already built into the Announcements Module. All you need to do is replace one line of code in the EditAnnouncements.aspx.vb file.
Replace:

txtExpires.Text = Convert.ToDateTime(dr("ExpireDate").ToString()).ToShortDateString()
With:
If dr("ExpireDate").ToString() <> "" Then
txtExpires.Text = Convert.ToDateTime(dr("ExpireDate").ToString()).ToShortDateString()
Else
txtExpires.Text = ""
End If

That's it!

News Article Module V2.0 Final and Media Player Module 1.0.2 Now Available

I am happy to announce that the News Article Module V2.0 Final and Media Player Module 1.0.2 has been release to public. The Media Player Module was mostly bug fixes (I highly recommend updating). The News Article Module has had a major overhaul, it now offers WISYWIG or Plain Text editing, New Image Size Selections, and Expanding Article Content (default state is contracted with just a teaser viewable, then you can expand the article to view all of its contents).

Hi Robert J Collins

I have installed your Media Player module in my portal DNN, and…after fixing a small problem, it runs very well.
I report the problem to you, hoping you would fix it in the next version
The bug is, if we install portal in a subdomain instead of default web site (likes http://mysite.com/dotnetnuke)
When we click the link to play, it requests the link by function MyNavMethod in
With this case the return string will be
“http://mysite.com/dotnetnuke/dotnetnuke/~portalGUID......", and the player could not find the media.
I temporary fix this with “replace” function to take away the duplicate, and it works OK.
I'm very new with web development, and I expect some better solution from you.
P/S: Another problem while processing EditMedia.ascx.vb , It’s not your bug, it from class global.vb.
I am not sure if it is a mistyping, please advise

I was seeing a similar issue in the previous version, but I though I had fixed it in the current one. I can install it in a full (www.site.com) or sub (/v-dir) domain and I am not seeing that issue (I am unable to reproduce the duplication, etc). Can you send me the spec on the system that is accessing the control (i.e. IE 5.5, NN 4.7, etc)? Could you send me a screen capture or something that I can see, this may help.
Also, if you have a fix, please feel free to send it to me; I would be happy to add it to the next version.

Module Name: HtmlFeed

Module Function: A screen scraping module that will take a URL, StartText, EndText and Instance parameters. The code grabs the source of the remote URL, then parses out all of the HTML between the StartText and EndText. If the StartText/EndText combo happens often, you can specify which instance of it to grab (i.e. there may be many <table> tags, but you want to start with the 5th one).
URL to Module: will post once testing is complete
IBSW Version Compatibility: DNN 1.0.5
Additional Notes: As I said with the XmlFeed module, I'm new to this community and to .Net, so be gentle with me and my code!
The last thing that I am working on with this module is reformatting relative URL's and IMG's in the source code so that they work. My Regex experience ain't the greatest, so it's slow work. If anyone is good at Regex, let me know! Here's an example of my Regex problem:
If my source URL is http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/ but a link in the source code is formatted as href="teams/fla/", how can I get it to be reformatted as href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/fla/"? Before you think it's that easy, keep in mind that some other links in the same HTML may be absolute (i.e. href="http://www.yahoo.com") or relative to the root (i.e. href="/nhl/teams/fla/"), so just tacking some text in every href won't work.
Drop me a line at mm53bar AT hotmail.com if you have any solutions or questions.
mike.

Well, it has taken longer than I originally estimated but I have finally posted the first Beta of the Advanced File Manager on my site ( http://www.theaccidentalgeek.com ). You must register in order to download the code. There are still some additional features to be added and I need to convert some of the core User Controls into Custom Controls for easier use in different ASP.Net applications. All of the current functionality should be working and has had minimal cross browser testing done (IE5+, Mozilla, Opera 7). There is one known bug with the file upload dialog on the latest Mozilla browser otherwise it looks pretty solid. There is some additional functionality that will be added in later versions, but this version should meet everyone's immediate need. If you have any questions please email me at joe_brinkman AT basketsofhope.com

Thanks Chankit. What you've outlined is essentially what I'm doing. The only problem is that I would have to manually look for all of the <a href and <img src tags in the page and then run your code on all of them. I was hoping to use Regex to do this all in one nice replace statement.

I did end coming out with a solution that looks remarkably similar to your code. I'm using a MatchEvaluator in my replace method. So, the code looks like this:
Dim myDelegate As New MatchEvaluator(AddressOf MatchHandler)
Dim pattern As String = "(?<tag><[a|img]).+?(href|src)=""?(?<url>[^""|>|\s]*)(""|>|\s)"
Dim re As New Regex( _
pattern, RegexOptions.Multiline Or _
RegexOptions.IgnoreCase _
)
Dim strOutputHTML As String = re.Replace(htmlfrag, myDelegate)
Then, the function MatchHandler (defined in the first line) handles each match that comes out of the replace. The code to the MatchHandler function is where the similarities begin:
If LCase(link).StartsWith("http://") Then
' fully formatted URL (i.e. http://www.yahoo.com/)
returnlink = link
ElseIf link.StartsWith("/") Then
' relative root URL (i.e. /sports/players.html)
returnlink = strBaseURL & link.TrimStart("/")
Else
' other relative URL (i.e. sports/players.html or ../players.html)
returnlink = htmlsrc & link
End If
The last case in the select isn't yet finished. I have to parse out the URL to ensure it ends with a directory instead of a filename (an assumption that you noted in your code as well).
This code work for both image and anchor tags. For anchor tags, I add a target="_blank" to make sure that the current window isn't overwritten.
I should be releasing the HtmlFeed module today or tomorrow. I've augmented it to support Internal, External and URL file paths so that it fits into the DNN standard better. The Internal and External were a pain because I had to use the FileStream object, which I wasn't familiar with.
Thanks for the help and feedback!
mike.

Any objections?

Good idea. I lost overview :-) I will put in on the German DotNetNuke.de also. It would be a good idea to list the modules, author, web site for download, cost (if it is not free) and maybe a logo from the company that supports that module.

Sounds like a "Control Gallery" module. In the meantime, I can either just use an HTML module or a document module with links.

I was going to use a document(s) module since it can be syndicated. This would keep us from maintaining so many versions. You could simply grab the rss feed.

Good point on the German! ;) I wonder if we should just work on a module like the control gallery that includes syndication. I'm still running DNN 1.0.5 and it appears that sydication in a document module has a bug, as the rss file is not being created. I'm going to have to dig in a bit more.

Any thoughts.

Bandar,

I appreciate your offer to host the different modules and believe it would certainly help those just starting out so they don't need to hunt & peck through the hundreds of different threads to find all the possible custom modules/icons/logos/etc. I know that I personally have spent a fairly significant amount of time pulling up many different and a central location would be great, however, I don't believe I have ever been able to get to your www.dotnetnuke.org domain.

Hi All,

I have been working with Vitamedics (Arkadic) on his IBS Store Rip. We have completed the first phase and have a treat for you to checkout. We have completed the core store and need testers & suggestions. Here is the info on the current builds features:
Portal Store v 1.0.6 BETA
This is an IBS Store Rip with some enhancements.
This is also, still in beta and we do not recommend using it in production as of yet.
(Also see "NOTE:" below.)
Here is a list of current features:
1) Product Category (tab menu of Product Categories) - Includes Search Control
2) Products Module - There are two parts to this module (panes)
(Default View - list of product thumbnails, descriptions, etc)
(Product Details View - Larger Image and full Product Information including review)
3) Shopping Cart (mini cart is in the works)
4) Most Popular (with tool-tip product description on mouse-over)
(will be adding Product images later)
5) Dynamic Thumbnail control to the Product List
(dynamically creates thumbnail from product images in Default View)
6) Product Reviews (when in detail mode)
7) Also Bought module that displays (when in Product Details) a list of other products order when the selected item was...
(with tool-tip product description on mouse-over)
8) Order History/Status module so customers can view order status and previous purchases...
9) Category Description both a Category Description tool-tip on mouse-over and at the top of the Products pane
10) Product Description tool-tip on mouse-over of Title and Product Image (in thumbnail/default view)
11) Category Administration (Add/Edit/Delete Categories)
12) Product Administration (Add/Edit/Delete Products)
The Shopping Cart and Order Status modules can be placed on any tab, but the other controls must be on the same tab at present.
URL to Module: Download Here
Version Compatibility: IBSW 1.0.2, 1.0.3, 1.0.4 and DotNetNuke v1.0.5 & .6
Additional Notes:
This Store is not yet Portal Specific, so you can only have one store per code-base. We will be working on a Portal Specific Store (each portal can have its own independent store) after we get this version feature complete and bug free.

In addition,

Once a user has used the store - if you then log off and attempt to return to the "store" page it fails
- it would seem that no "user ID" is initialy catered for (as you can view the page without logging on) until data is available in the database when it then fails here :-

Hope this helps

I did see where I forgot to update the ProductCategoryAddItem (I will upload a fixed zip in about an hour). Your error is because the Order History module requires you to be authenticated to view it. What you can do is move the Order History module to a Tab that is visible only to authenticated users (this is what I did) or make the module only available to authenticated users. I will add a try catch block this evening to prevent errors (it will send a "Must be logged in to view order history" error to the screen).
Thanks for the report, and I hope you like the tool.

I have added an Advanced Search Add-on for the Portal Store. This is available as a separate download (see link above). It adds a Full-Text Index to the Products table, alters the SP to us Contains(column-name, '"string* or string*"') to do a full-text search, and make a change to the ProductPane.ascx.vb page. I am not going to include it with the Portal Store package do to the fact that it does configure full-text indexing, and this could add overhead that is unwanted.
Please let me know if you have any questions/find any bugs.

i did and would be happy to share, it is on xpdit.com after logging in, in the xpdit dev network source code page.

it has issues, and i am currently collaborating with others on using the modules that are under development for content management and downloads, to combine them and make a greater functionality than what wrox has offered.
it all works fine if you use it , but please note that the securities are completely dysfunctional and are breached, so that anyone can change, check in/out and archive objects.
no good, so i can't use it, can't figure out quite why this is so.
thanks.

My ultimate goal is to add the following (not in this specific order):
1) Use of the DNN payment Processes
2) Multi Portal Store Code
3) Full featured administration tool
4) E-Mail notifications (both customer and retailer)
5) SQL Reports
However, with that said, I want to get the Core tested and bug free before moving on to the next level of functionality. I am hoping to get feed back from the community to know if I have accomplished this goal / what features you would like to see in the tool.
Let me know what you find while testing the tool.

Robert,

I really appreciate the work you've done on the News Article module. It was almost <g> exactly what I needed. I'd like the ability to put a portion of an article(s) on the front page as the main news article(s) each week. Then when viewers click more, they're taken to another section of the site to view the full article. I'm stuggling with how to do that. For that to work, I'd also need the "description" to support HTML so I could put essentially the first part of the article with an image on the home page and then give the "more.." to get the rest of the article.
I can sort of trick it out by making an "announcement" that links to an Internal hidden tab that only has the news module. That'll at least get me to the "news articles" tab but I can specify which article should be opened since I can set the "view order" or the initial state of the article "collapsed or maximized". If I could do that and only have 1 main article I could just put it at the top as "opened". That won't help when I have multiple articles linking in though.
Any thoughts on how to give links to one or more news articles on one tab that jump to a "news viewer" somewhere else for the full article?
Thanks,
John Granade

If I am following you correctly; you want to have one large News Article on the home page that than takes a reader to a tab with several smaller one.
My best suggestion for doing that would be to use the HTML module for your home page and create a “More Info” link to the internal (or hidden) tab.
As for making the “Description” a HTML WYSIWYG that is rather easy. You can just mimic what I did for the “Article” portion and its HTML module. However, I think the best/easiest solution is in using the HTML Module as your front page and then have it link back to where you have the news article(s).
As for jumping to a “News View”, I would suggest putting an Anchor tag in the News Article description, then set that anchor reference on the link from the Front Page. When the user clicks the link, it takes them to the specified page and location in the page.
I will be working on a more sophisticated News Article module in the next month or so, and I will make that available when it is completed.
Let me know if this did or did not answer your question.

lucast,
This tool will remain free to all DotNetNuke developers.
I have an IBuySpy Portal (MS Vanilla) version that I have for sale in the control gallery.
I am a firm believer that in an open source project such as this, controls should be freely offered to other developers and we should make our $$$'s on our customers (implementation rather than development). This does several good things; 1) it gives back to Shaun and the rest of the core developers, 2) it allows for quick option growth (if I don't think of the feature hopefully you will...) / shared collaboration, and 3) it lends way for greater adoption of the core open source project (more toys bring more interest).
All of my DotNetNuke modules are & always will be freely offered to the community from now until the project comes to an end (I am hoping this means forever :).

Thanks for your reply. I will make the HTML "Description" changes. That part isn't a problem, just a suggestion. I'm still struggling trying to think through the news links issue. Really what I'm looking for is something like http://msnbc.com/news/default.asp where there are different sections with various links to news articles all over the home page. When you click on a article link, it doesn't take you to a "news tab" with all the articles but it takes you to one specific article. (i.e. http://msnbc.com/news/901359.asp?0cv=CB20 was one of the links). They have some modules like "Inside MSNBC" that just have several article highlights stacked up like DNN "announcements" that you click on to go to the article. For the headline they'll create a full HTML section with usually a big picture that'll take you to that article. The key is you can create links that open up specific article.

I ran in to this problem somewhat with announcements. I wanted a way to link to "HTML" that brought up a eye catching page formatted with images and more details of the specific announcement. However, DNN only gives a way to link to external sites or internal documents that have been uploaded (i.e. Word docs) and not WYSIWYG created HTML. I think what I need to work on is a way to select not internal documents but internally stored HTML to display (i.e. the full news article). Does that make sense?
Thanks,
John

The easy fix for this (something I am thinking about adding this week) is to add two panels (like I have done in my DNN e-store Products page). By default you display the panel with the list of new info, then when a reader click the more info link, that panel's visibility is set to false, and the full blown news articles panel is displayed with the selected article and all of the rich images and text you are wanting. This gives the reader that illusion that they have traveled to a different page. Then they can ether click the back button, or the "Return" link you then sets that panel visibility to false and restores the original (new list) panel's visibility to true…
I will be making these modifications this weekend/something next week. In the mean time, it would not be hard for you to add this functionality. Take a look at the Portal Store I have on our "Free Stuff" page (where you went to get the news module). I do this very thing with the ProductPane.ascx to display a list of product then display product details.

is this the end of the open source movement for DNN?
does private assemblies mean no more sharing code?

Just an update on this.

I planned on it being a couple weeks, but as I started developing this thing I started thinking, this would be better if it did this and that. so now I have this big project I'm woking on. I am testing live and finally have adding of sites and categories for Admins. I am writing it so it has more levels of security than just edit roles for the entire module. I am working on being able to create a role and then letting the role add sites and the user adding the site can always edit the site.
Thanks for the interest out there, I have had a lot people register with my www.wwwcoder.com site, problem is I lost my DB when I upgraded and forgot to back up my database (I know, shame on me). So I am changing things a bit, you can get the information from my personal site www.santry.com and register there. You can view my app at www.wwwcoder.com.
I'm also working on building the directory to be a resource for the community. While I'm at it, if you have a site that you would like to see added to the directory, drop me an email (Webmaster@wwwcoder.com) and I'll add it (link and description). Once I have the edit features in you can then add it yourself, but I don't have a time estimate on it. I'm doing this on weekends and what I can get away with without ticking of my wife. ;-)

xpdit,

Per your thread above:
arkadic had a rip that he made available and I worked with him to get it completed including the adding of basic store administration (a slim version of the IBS Store Admin tool that my company created and sells at asp.net). I then ported it back to IBS (generic) and added all of our Store Admin Tool functionality to it, added several other option and I sell a IBuySpy Portal C# and VB version for $120.00 standard and 160.00 developer. I am not, will not, and have not ever sold a DNN version of this store!!! The money I charge for the vanilla IBS Portal Store is to cover the cost of the IBS Admin Tool (my companies Store Admin Toll) that has been packaged with it, and cover some of the development cost involved in bringing the FREE DNN version to the community. I worked on arkadic’s code for over 2 week improving it and adding features like:
Auto thumbnail generation
Checkout Process
Migration of shopping cart when a customer logs in
The More Details section of the Product Pain

Before slandering another community member in this or any other forum, maybe you should find out the facts! arkadic’s code consisted of a basic NAV, Product, and Shopping Cart Component. It was a nice start, but it was not a completed. I took the code he has and I with his help made it a store!!!
Again I will reiterate; I have not, do not, and will not EVER sell a DNN version of the store code. However I do have a vanilla IBS version that I sell at a very low cost to cover our admin tool and a small amount to help in providing this community with a FREE (not $600.00 or $250.00) Portal Store!

I must say, also "not knowing the facts" either, I'm quite discouraged as a "free" module developer.

I brought what 'little' I had to the community in hopes to see it made into a perfect working module, and possibly even incorporated. When you came to me talking about this, I didn't have the time to do a lot, but gave all my ideas, or "secrets" of what I was planning freely.
Throughout this, I even brought up developing a subsidary version which 'we' could charge for, but got no response.
I now see you selling the code, yes mabye for a base IBS Portal, but only minor modifications would be needed, and with all of my ideas incorp.
You also DO mention a DNN version available on the same page your selling the modules, though, NOWHERE am I mentioned, for the 'little' but necessary work, or ideas that I gave/implemented/fixed.
I can appreciate trying to make a dollar, but I really think you stepped on some toes here, especially when I was quite open to the idea of selling it and stated so.
I've since made several other additions, and still have a LONG list of features that I would like to see, however, I really don't know if I even want to share them with anyone now.
I guess if nothing else I will now have to look into a copyright notice stating that my module is FREE and may NOT be resold in any form.

dunno how you can compare a years work on a premium storefront solution to a quickfix in a few weeks on your part (namely on arks work).

you want what you want, i have lowered the price and have a lot to give....
i just don't understand how you can do that. have you even seen the code for the xpdit store? nope.
the whole point is that you are excluding the benefactor who is helping you, and in essence are betraying your purpose.. this code is ALWAYS free, you said........ and i assure you ark is in agreement with that, or should you tell him your intentions???
why?
no mention in the previous post that ark was the inspiration and major part in this, no telling him you're selling it.... you may have added to it, but i do not question that part, what about the community spirit.... and honesty
the whole thing stinks.
how much would it take to change the xpdit store back to vanilla ibs... like fifteen minutes, copy paste the core code from dnn that you need and go nuts!
i have worked and struggled to create my store, but this is not about my store at all, this is about honesty and respect.
all you should be doing is calling or emailing ark to let him know what you want to do with what he has started and enabled, and basically is a major part of that code you say is "all yours". or maybe he is, but doesnt know???
come on man. get a grip. are we a community?
it should not be slandering, it should be the truth. i only bring up a real point. why did you not ask ark, if you are indeed together on this? and why is he not going to see profit from this? ibs is basically a simple dnn... its the roots, its easy to program to ibs.
end... i know you add an amount to the dnn community, so don't take this the wrong way, but its really weird to see this going on. if you were corresponding, thats another matter and this post would not be here at all.

Hey gang.

It's a bit disheartening to see what is going on here.
I am not taking sides but simply suggesting that if any of us has an issue with another, perhaps it is best to address it offline or atleast privately rather than in a public forum.
Just my 1/2 cent. ( I couldn't afford the full 2 cents) ;)
Cheers!

About not giving credit (another miss-assumption of yours), here is the first lines from the original post (#3 link of this thread):
I have been working with Vitamedics (Arkadic) on his IBS Store Rip. We have completed the first phase and have a treat for you to checkout. We have completed the core store and need testers & suggestions. Here is the info on the current builds features:
Also, in regards to taking this offline I cannot believe this was ever online. Not an e-mail or anything to discus this, just a public slam (and you talk about respect). When I say your post offering MY FREE MODULES and others as part of your subscription, I sent you a private non confrontational e-mail asking your intentions. You explained and after that you started stating the some modules available we free and you were just making them available as a convenience. But I never attacked you in the forum, even though I could have.
This is ridiculous!!! The only reason I can see you getting involved is because you are afraid that the FREE store will put you under and you want to take it and me out first.

Arkadic,

I am extreme sorry if I offended you in any way, that was not my intention.
You had a very basic outline of a store (rip of the Navigation, part of the product Pane, and part of the Shopping cart). You requested assistance with getting fully functional. I was also looking for a solution like the one you were trying to put together. I contacted you and let you know about the additions I wanted to add. I chatted with you several times over the next two weeks as I added feature after feature including parts of my companies Store Admin Tool. I also gave you (for free) a full copy of our admin tool which I requested that you not give away as it is a product of the corporation and I was not authorized to give away our admin tool for free. I did add the parts that were needed to do basic administration, but until I could find an alternate way of producing revenue to make up for the loss in sales associated with giving the tool away - offering the full tool to the community - I was unable to add all of the admin features. I decided to port the code back to IBS in both a C# and VB version, with our complete Admin tool fully integrated as a way to supplement any lose in profits associate in giving our product away to the community (our store admin tool).
I did not intend to ruffle any feathers in doing so. I have given you a copy of every DNN build I have made. I didn’t think selling an IBS version that included our admin tool would upset you or any other community members.
Per the readme.txt file in your original code, I have done nothing wrong:

“This code is 100% free, all I ask is that if you do something 'cool' to it you share
your findings with me. I'm just learning ASP.NET, and learn best by 'Visually'
plowwing through code.”

I will gladly pull the asp.net control gallery post if you find that to be the best fix.
Again I am very sorry for upsetting you / offending you, that was not my intentions. I will do whatever you want to make this right to you.

Yes. There are two distribution points to get a copy of the store.

1) arkadic's site
2) WillowTree's site

Not sure if this the right place to ask, but has anyone worked on or know of a module that is a questionaire. I know there are survey mods, but I am looking for one that works similar to the user defined table. It would allow you to add fields or questions that users can submit answers to and place in a db or even email the admin the results.

This is not the NewsModule to speak. It is because you are running the .Net Fraimwork 1.1.
One of the new features in the 1.1 framework is a security feature that does not allow you to post HTML or Script characters. This is to protect you from BAD people and malicious code being put in a text box and posted back to your server. If you use the HTML module, you will get the same error. The way to resolve this is to add Validation=False in the page directive of the EditModules.aspx page (something like: <%@ Page language="VB" validateRequest="false" %>).
There are a number of post on this subject throughout the asp.net forum.
I hope this helps.

emlarsen,
Per your post, this is what I have found:
The location has changed depending on which DNN build you have.
Here are the two paths I know of:
controls/ftb/raised/
controls/ftb/images/ftb/raised/
You will find the path reference in the EditNewArticle.ascx page somewhere around line 44.
I assume that what ever path yours is using, switch it to the other. The latest build of DNN (.7) is the later path. Also, the latest build of the NewsArticle module (2.0.3) is now set to the later path as well. If you re-download it, you should get the working build.

Hey Zonehenge,

Found a bit of an issue with the News Article (latest release). If you upgrade from an older version, and have news articles on your site, it will error out. Basically, it is having a problem with the <NULL> value in the authed field. You will need to set all of them to 1 so that old articles will work. Might want to add it to the .sql script so all old articles start out as authorized.
Great mod, by the way. Thanks for all your work.
Also, do you have a fix for the image gallery not working? I get a 404 error, file not found. It works in my HTML mod.
Thanks,

Good call on the Database change. I have changed it to default to 1 so current articles stay visible (sorry for any inconvenience). Another good call on the Image Gallery pop-up in the ftb control, I had not called “CreateFreeTextBox(ftbDesktopText, _portalSettings.UploadDirectory)” in the code behind page, so the values were not being added.

lizardpickle has discontinued the development of IBuySpyWorkshop (IBSW) backward compatible programs. We will continue to offer the current IBSW modules, but future releases will be DNN versions only. The reason for this change is do to our use/reliance on new core security and functionality improvements found in the DNN framework. Modules such as the newly released News Article v2.0.3 implements the use of Tab Administers, thus it is not compatible with IBSW without a great amount of changes and rewriting to both the module and the IBSW core framework. I hope you all will continue to use our modules and continue to support us as we move forward in bringing innovative new modules and features.

Document Version Control v1.0.3

(updated version of xpdit's Wrox rip)
Compatibility: DotNetNuke V1.0.5 and Later.
This is a major update to xpdit's Wrox rip. We have fixed the numerous security issues, combined the functionality into a smaller package, and most importantly, we have added document and document chain subscriptions. Now when you check out a document only your or the admin (or tab admin) can check them back in, anonymous users can only view documents, and only users with edit permissions can add/checkout documents. The subscription service allows the user to subscribe to a document (as many as they want) or a chain of documents (the module). If you subscribe to a document you will be e-mailed whenever that document is updated (checked in) or archived. If you subscribe to the chain of documents (the module) you receive email when any document in that chain is updated, archived, or added. Take a look and let me know if you have any question.

Yes, I am migrating to a new site and Corp name. As a temp quick fix, I removed the navigation images (they are run by JavaScript) from the download site until I have time to get the new site up and running (a DNN site - finally). I am hoping to have the migration completed this weekend. After that, those pages will no longer be needed (and will redirect you to our new site).

Robert, I tried your DV v1.04 control in a DNN 1.07 setup and had the following problems:

First when compiling with mk.bat got a whole bunch of errors because DisplayFull.ascx.vb couldn't find the Wrox components. This due to they were copied to a subdirectory of components - easily fixed.
Now when I compile I get...

lblMsgs.ForeColor = Color.Red

Any ideas how to fix this?

Hi Gary,
I am not sure what to tell you on this error. The call to Color.xxx is a built-in part of System.Drawing.
Here is the info from MS on this Structure:
Public Structure Color
Inherits System.ValueType
Member of System.Drawing
<System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComVisibleAttribute(True), System.ComponentModel.TypeConverterAttribute(System.Drawing.ColorConverter), System.ComponentModel.EditorAttribute("System.Drawing.Design.ColorEditor, System.Drawing.Design, Version=1.0.3300.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a", System.Drawing.Design.UITypeEditor)>

Here is a question and suggestion:
Q. Are you running framework 1.0 or 1.1?
S. Try adding the following to the top of these pages:
Imports System.Drawing
Let me know if the Imports System.Drawing works and I will add it to the source. Outside of that, I am not sure what to say. I use VS.Net to compile my apps and it works fine. I have not tried using the .bat file before.
If adding the Imports System.Drawing doesn't work let me know and I will do some troubleshooting on the .bat compile.

Yes, that works.
Had to put it in components\wrox*.vb plus DesktopModules\DocumentControl\WroxDocAcls.ascx.vb
Thanks for the tip!

Yes, this is the bane of my DNN work.
EditURL conflicts with a global variable in the DNN framework.
On the next release this will be fixed (same with other modules that get the same warning).

Module Name: Document Version Control v1.0.5?

First off I would like to say great job to everyone working on this project. I originally looked at IBSW a few months back as my company was looking for a better intranet solution. I only looked at it briefly, as simple document management was our primary requirement. Most recently I have been looking at sharepoint, Share point was too expensive and was overly complex and not as extensible for what we needed. A few days ago I decide to check out the IBSW site and noticed the name had changed and a new version had been released (1.07). I decide to look at the product again and 3 days later 1.08 came out. I am pleasantly surprised at the effort that everyone has put into this project and am absolutely amazed at the progress that has occurred in the past few months. That said I am confident that things will only get better and think this is the best solution for my companies intranet.
The module that most interests me is the Document Version and Control. What follows are the requirements for my organization and the modification that I am going to start working on. Feel free to give me any suggestions or additional modifications as I will take all of this into consideration.
Requirement 1
Requirement: The ability to perform full text searches. Not only within the current module but all other document modules
Solution: Develop scripts to create full text indexes on table Wrox_Docs. See Requirement 4 for multiple module search.
Requirement 2
Requirement: Regular users should not get editable document
Solution: If user has view only permission they should receive a PDF version of the document. Does anyone know of a free component that can convert documents to PDF?
Requirement 3
Requirement: The database could become larger fairly quickly. For example some of the docs at my work can be 5 to 10mb in size. If this document is checked in and out 10 times that one document is now taking up 50-100MB in the database.
Solution : I have a couple of ideas for this one....
Only store the most current version of the document in the database.
Step 1: Update code so that when a record is moved to Wrox_Docs_Versions the actual document is written to the file system. Store the file system path in the database. When someone requests this document the aspnet account will perform a binary stream to the browser. This will not reduce the amount of hard drive space that is being utilized but will make SQL backups and maintenance easier
Step 2: When copying document from the database to the file system perform an additional step that will compress the file.
Step 3: Develop code that would utilize VSS and check in and out the documents.
On the same note of database management I was thinking of putting all of the documents into there own database. This way my portal db would be small and full backups would be very fast. I could create a different backup schedule for the documents DB.
Requirement 4
Requirement: the ability to have content on more than one tab. For example I might have a document library that contains escalation documents for all of our clients. I have three different departments that need these documents and each want them on there tabs. I basically need the document module to subscribe to the same content
Solution: This is the one I have been stuck on for the past week. Any solution would require modification to the core, something that I am not sure how is handled in this forum. I have been reading over some posts and I feel Poolbeer has the exact solution that will work for Document Version and Control. If this is something that will work for both of our modules how hard will it be for the changes to make it in the official release? Or is this something we need to maintain within out own intranet? I would hate to do all the work on this module and not have the ability to share it with other users.
Poolbeer, I am going to start work on my other modifications and hold of on this until I have a better idea of how your Content solution works. Let me know if you need any help collaboration on this.
Pleas let me now your thoughts and suggestions
Thanks

Hi,

I am new to DotNetNuke and would develop a time planner / holiday scheduler for it.
Also I would be interested in your HelpDesk module as well.
My main question is how to integrate the modules into the existing code the easiest.
Can you/or anyone else give a quick cookbook hint?
Cheers,

Module Name: Event Log Viewer

Module Function: View the event logs on the local machine hosting the DNN. (details below)
URL to Module: coming soon...
IBSW Verson Compatibility: Programmed as an admin/host module for DNN 1.0.9, but should be compatible with at least 1.0.7 and 1.0.8.
Additional Notes: I'm about 3/4 of the way through designing this module for personal uses, but would like to get feedback/interest on sharing it with the DNN community.
The module binds all of the available event logs from the local machine to a dropdownlist, and sources to another dropdownlist. On change of the dropdownlist event log or source, it rebinds the events of that event log/source to the datagrid. The datagrid contains paging, sorting, refreshing, and filtering. The module has the ability to export the current datagrid to an excel file. The module also has a search funtion to search for certain event id's, dates, sources or message text. I was also thinking about adding local machine statistics like memory used and top 10 processes (at least in a future version).
What I would like to know is how much interest there would be for this type of admin/host module. Also, while I am not in favor of it by any means, would it be unreasonable to charge $9.95 for this type of module on snowcovered.com?
Looking forward to comments. Thanks.

Josh,

I'm definately not opposed to paying for software and $9.95 isn't excessive. Personally, I would get a nice solid module going and distribute it for free initially. When the bugs are worked out and you've had feedback from the user community, start charging for the 2.0 release.

Module Name: FlexHTML DNN 1.1

Module Function:
FlexHTML DNN 1.1
This FlexHTML Module will give portal designers a much needed tool that uses the HtmlText Module in a variety of ways. You can now page or tab to subjects, products, pictures, book pages, use it as a document reader. Anything that can be done in an HTML document can now be done with this module, including even another nested web site with tabs for navigation.
This module’s functionality is the same as the standard HtmlText Module— but with the added ability to add multiple pages within the space of the HTML Module. You can even determine the mode of navigation by building tabs for each added page or you can just do paging using page navigation buttons.
The demo page shows the use of the module in three ways: a Horizontal Tab mode, a Vertical Tab Mode, and a Page Navigation Mode.

Module Name: Links Directory 1.0 DNN

Module Function: Links to your site are extremely important when google and other search engines rank the relevance of your site - the goal of this module is to organize and simplify the process of building a list of sites linking to and from your site.
URL to Module: Links Directory 1.0
DNN Version Compatibility: 2 versions are currently available for both DNN1.0.9 and DNN1.0.10x.
Additional Notes:
* Users can quickly, and easily submit thier site for your approval.
* Links can be sorted by category.
* Pending Links Management Console - Pending links can be authorized, edited, or removed from the system.
* Links Management - links that have been authorized can easily be edited or deleted at any time.
* 'New' links are denoted as such for a time period specified in the module settings.
* 'Top' sites are denoted as such by having an average rating in the top 10% of all sites listed.
* New Link Notification System - When a user submits a new link, an email is sent to the administrator of the site, letting them know. Once the administrator has authorized the link, an email is sent to the user notifying them, and requesting a link back to your site.
* Site Rating - Each site can be rated by a user on a scale of 1-5. Only one vote is permitted per IP address, assuring that the top ratings are well-deserved. The site's average rating determines the sort order of the links, and 'Top' site honors. Webmasters seeking to boost their site rating will no doubt nudge thier users in your sites direction so they can vote. A win-win situation!
* All links generated are webcrawler-friendly (i.e. can easily be followed by search engine bots). Webmasters will surely appreciate this.

Function: Display a message to user if they are running a downrev or off-market browser.
URL: http://mbrandon.europe.webmatrixhosting.net/
Version: Written against 1.0.8 - Tested on 1.0.9 It should work as far back as the modulesettings DL existed in AdminDB. How long it will keep working? Who knows!
Notes:
I re-used the HTML module to edit/display the user message, so your portal must have that module installed. Because of this, when you edit the module settings, you have to update the Browser / version settings *seperate* from the HTML settings.
(Err- I just realized I should have put the module settings as an option panel - and then just used the *actual* htmlEditmodule to edit content! Oh well, version 2!)
If your browser passes the test (ie, ID string = setup, version => setup) it will not render output at all!!

MODULE NAME: Gooddogs Repository Module (GRM)

The Gooddogs Repository Module (GRM) for DotNetNuke is a module that allows you to present a library of files to your visitors. It is the exact same module that is in use on www.gooddogs.com/dnn for my skins and containers collection.
In addition to the standard features of a library module, such as displaying details about a file, author information, sorting the list, etc., GRM also provides built-in functionality that allows visitors to search the repository, rate each item, leave comments about each item, view small preview images (if available) and larger images.
The GRM is available as a private assembly that is simple to install and will have you up and running in minutes!. It will also be available soon with full-source at snowcovered.com.
The Gooddogs Repository Module (GRM) for DotNetNuke is being made available to all DotNetNuke developers free!! That's right. No charge. No registration required, just download it and use it as you wish. For those of you who are interested, the module with complete source will be available shortly at snowcovered.com for a small fee. I know that all module developers cannot follow this model, but I believe that it's the best way for me to repay the entire DotNetNuke community for the help and knowledge and vision that they've all shared with me.
The web site has all the information that you will need. You can download the private assembly and view the user manual (with screen shots for every step from installation through setup to usage).
Enjoy!

Module Name: XmlSmith CSSTAB & CSSNAV

Module Function: Add pure CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) based solution to DNN
The newly-created XmlSmith CSSTAB and CSSNAV method enables developers to add a tabbed navigation with submenus where submenu lists are nested into the parent navigation list.
With XmlSmith CSSTAB and CSSNAV you can create pure CSS Tab and nested menu Navigation, add pure CSS skins and pure CSS containers. When your visitors move between the different Tabs and navigate through your Tab hierarchy, XmlSmith solution retains information about the status and keeps Tabs selected when clicked.
Using XmlSmith CSSTAB and CSSNAV you can make your menu navigation always accessible. It does not use JavaScript so your visitors can see the menus even if the security settings for their web browser are set to High or the Active Scripting is disabled.
Tabs are continually growing in popularity as a primary means of site navigation. Now that CSS is widely supported, Tab navigation can be easily added to DNN with XmlSmith CSSTAB. Pure text navigation is much easier to maintain and loads more quickly than image based or JavaScript based navigation. Also, pure text is more accessible since it can be resized by users with impaired vision.
With the XmlSmith CSSNAV skin object included in the package, you can also build a pure CSS nested menu Navigation.
XmlSmith CSSTAB and CSSNAV skin objects build an unordered list of links extracting the information from the DNN database. All the information about the state of currently selected Tabs hierarchy or currently selected menu element is saved between the browser sessions and is marked with CSS classes. The CSS style sheets do the rest.
The package includes free samples for pure CSS Skin with 3 different layouts with headers and footers - 1 column, 2 columns and 3 columns; also pure CSS Containers, pure CSS Tabs and pure CSS dropdown menu Navigation are included as well.

AVAILABLE NOW AT WWW.KODHEDZ.NET
The Portal Duplicator provides advanced copying, backup and templating abilities for the Content of any existing DotNetNuke 2.1.2 Portal to easily create standardized templates, push content to portals, or automate portal creation from a variety of choices of prebuilt templates.
You can:
• Select which Tabs, Roles and Users to Copy
• Select if you want to copy the Module Contents, or just the Module
• Create an XML Template for use in any portal within the same installation, or in a separate installation.
• Create a portal in any installation from an existing XML Template
• Create Custom Schemas for any of the custom modules you use
Current Limitations:
• UserID, TabID and ModuleID fields for Module Content are not accurate in third party relationships when creating a portal from XML Templates. It will use the old ID from the initial templated portal
* Scheduled for fix in next release

Modules can be copied using custom built schemas. The schemas are simple references to the structure of the data you will be copying for each module and its nested tables.
Schemas are provided for all of the standard DotNetNuke Core Modules.

The KódHedZ Form Generator

AVAILABLE NOW AT WWW.KODHEDZ.NET
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dynamic Forms for your DotNetNuke Portal
Take control of your Portal Registration Processes using Dynamically generated forms. The forms are made from pure HTML with customized [TAGS] to hold the fields for the form. Each field is replaced with ASP.Net controls at runtime, to create a professional form with advanced input validation and process flow.
You can easily create custom forms for almost any information gathering requirement, as well as automate several important parts of your website: New User Registration, and Portal Creation. You can also create custom procedures or integrate other modules that work within the DotNetNuke Framework, such as selecting a prebuilt Portal Template using the KodHedZ Portal Duplicator, authorizing payment using a custom eCommerce Gateway, or creating a custom order form for services or invoicing.
The way a user enters information to the form can be in a variety of formats:
· text boxes
· drop down lists
· radio button lists
· check boxes
The entire process starts with a simple HTML formatted template. This template Includes simple tags surrounded by square brackets [TAGNAME] that represent each field in any custom form you make. When the form is created for the user, in each of these special tags is replaced by a custom asp.net control allowing the input entry for the user in the format specified by the form designer.
There are several advanced options for properties for certain control formats.
Each field on your form is comprised of several parts. It must have a label to describe the field, It must have an entry area for input, and it must have optional validation of the entry.
The text box may require input validation, and so dynamic validators are created for these controls. Regular expression validators, compare validators for password fields, and required input field validators are the supported types.
You can also design the mode for the text box, single line, password, or multiline. If you would like a multiple line text box, you can also select the number of rows.
Regular expression validation requires defining both the expression and a description for the user to understand the format of the entry.
Compare validation requires defining the field to compare against.
AVAILABLE NOW AT WWW.KODHEDZ.NET
The drop down list and radio button list both require data binding. To allow for greatest flexibility For the designer of the form, data binding is available not only for custom procedures to collect data from a database, but also for file system parsing to return files within certain folders as a list, which is helpful when selecting templates, files for inclusion, etc.
for data binding from a database you need to tell the form the name of a stored procedure you will use to get the data for the list. In combination With any custom parameters that you define to send along with the stored procedure name to create a dynamic SQL command. These custom parameters can be defined quite easily But must first be selected by the user prior to entering a value in the dependant control. In this way you can have interconnected fields on your form. A good example of this is the country and region of the user on registration. When the user selects the country of origin, the drop down list of the region’s must change to show the regions within that country. In this way if we pass the required parameter to databind the region field with The selection from the country field.
To aid in the creation of the dynamic SQL command, we also must define the data type of the field. This is string, Decimal, integer, text etc.
For the display to the browser we must describe the width of the control and its associated label, as well as the CSS class we will be using for both the field and the label.
By using any HTML template with these custom tags within it, you can easily attach to any other process within your DotNetNuke portal. A very good example of a process would be portal creation Or new user registration.
The form provides for flexibility in how you approach the applicant by giving optional registration instructions and agreement form. This ensures that your applicants Have the required prerequisite information to fill out the form properly, as well as the security of their agreement to your terms, conditions or policies.
AVAILABLE NOW AT WWW.KODHEDZ.NET
New portal creation
The form generator comes prepackaged with a template to allow for creation of a new portal using the default fields of DotNetNuke. There is nothing quite Special in particular about this form, other than the fact that it is fully scalable and the look and feel can be modified by any HTML designer.
After selecting the complete form button, the new portal is created and the user is registered as the administrator of that portal. This follows the standard procedures that are built into DotNetNuke to control new user registration and new portal creation. If, in your host settings of DotNetNuke, you select To allow anonymous portal registration this will be enforced within the form, as well if you define a price or a timeframe for portal trial registration, this also will be enforced as the default for the new portal.
Full integration for portal sign-up if the price is defined allows integrated payment for new portal creation using any major credit card, Paypal, or mail order.
New user registration
The form generator comes prepackaged with a template to allow for the registration of a new user to your portal. Although this form uses the default fields for DotNetNuke user registration, it also includes a custom field for user comment.
In the administrative settings for your portal, you may have defined if this portal requires verification of the user email address. If so, the user will have to log in using the verification code they receive via e-mail.
Integration with third parties modules and processes
The KódHedZ form generator comes prepackaged with a template to integrate with KodHedZ portal duplicator. This allows seamless integration for creation of portals using a template that includes the tabs the modules and the module contents for the new portal. It is included as a premier example of how this module can integrate with your workflow system to provide a robust solution for a complicated problem that could otherwise require Many hours of custom development.
AVAILABLE NOW AT WWW.KODHEDZ.NET
Getting down to business …
For the dynamic form generator module to work properly you must add a reference within a skin on your website, a module container, or within a module itself in the ascx code.
<%@ Register TagPrefix="dnn" TagName="KHZ_Register_Button" Src="~/DesktopModules/KHZ.Register/SkinObjects/RegisterButton.ascx" %>
Where you want to call and show the registration button skin object, you would add the following line of code. There are three attributes to this object.
Text : this is the actual text that is displayed for the link
CssClass : this is the name of the CSS class for the link
FormName: this is the only required attribute. Without this attribute defined, the link button will not be enabled. It must match exactly to the character, of the name of an appropriate form that you have created using the registration module control panel.
<dnn:KHZ_Register_Button runat="server" id="KHZ_Register_Button" Text="Solicitor Membership" CssClass="commandbutton" FormName="Solicitor Membership" />&nbsp;
Deploying Forms after they are completed
Every single form you use on your system consists of two parts : the HTML file and the records in the database .
Creating a valid HTML file is one of the most important steps. This HTML file can include images These images can be referenced to any URL but I’ve found it handy to store the images in the same folder in your file structure as the form HTML is stored. When you create a form using the form designer a folder will be created for you in this following directory :
A //root/portals/_default/FORMS
The folder name will be exactly the name that you type in which is the name of the form . this is how you reference that form using the skin object and so you should make sure that you spell it and type it properly including spaces and punctuation. This folder name would look like this in your folder structure:
//root/portals/_default/FORMS/FORMNAME
When you first install your module you will need to manually copy the two existing forms that are default forms for user registration and portal registration to that folder which was described above. Without these files copied then these forms will not load correctly When you go to use them within your portal.

Done... as requested. It is independent of the PA - but uses common assemblies so you can install either or both. The CssClass property is available for use as a skin object.

The only place this module falls over is that it can't follow webstone or inventua shadow modules (personally i think inventua) is the bomb.

Hello. I have finished my first little module (got quite a few other big ones in the pipeline!)

Basically I have loads of HTML modules all over the place doing little things, so I decided to consolidate them (currently mostly Jscript functions, but it wont be limited to this). I envisage a Utilities module with a load of options for enabling and disabling different functions, and you'd put multiple modules on your portal.
This one basically is an multi-browser implementation of a NoRightClick script (I use it on my webcam on dumbTV) and a cursor clock that annoys the heck out of my users ;)

Module Name: Smart-Thinker Utilities
Module Function: NoRightClick with a custom message, and the ability to have a cool cursor clock (using Jscript)
URL to Module: http://www.dumbTV.co.uk
(under DNN\Modules 2.x tab)
IBSW Version Compatibility: ?
Additional Notes: I see this as a living module - I will be enhancing it all the time as I come across new functionality that does not fit into it's own module. Please let me know what you think and I'm open to suggestions.
ps. you don't have to login to download it!

Hi

I have purchased the power reports 2.8 module and liked it.
It worked good for a while, but now when I connect to a SQL Server and choose DB, it doesn't show me the line of query : with the radio buttons to choose Select, Stored Procedure etc.
Any Idea how to fix it or what happend ?
I use 2_0_4 by the way, and the previous configured Grids that use Stored Procedures keep working - I simply can't modify them or make new ones.

It used to work, but 2 months ago stopped.

I have made an update to my category links module.

Module Name: Schmidt Software Categorized Links
Module Function: Organize your web links into categories.
URL to Module: http://www.schmidtsoftware.com/DotNetNuke/Default.aspx?tabid=44

I added the following items:
1) Allow editing based on module setting rather than host account.
2) Added description for links
3) Added category filter
4) Added cacheing of main links page
5) Added back buttons.

Has anyone had any luck configuring DotNetNuke to authenticate through Active Directory? I am trying to set up DotNetNuke for a small web my company works for and they are real big on having everything use AD for permissions.

BIG THANKS TO REPLY'S!!

Schwingsoft Interactive Shadow

description:
Shadow module content from any tab any portal, even different domains portals.
It isnt called interactive for nothing using a remote scripting engine it just not displays the module content on any tab you want but you can do cool things with it as well, have the content appear onclick of image, link, a tabbedlike structure in a popup layer ( free soon to be released addon) rewrite the content returned ( another soon to be released free addon), and last but not elast soon to be released addon ( interactivey shadow non dnn content ( html, php, cold fusion etc )
Lot of use cases, because this module integrates a remote scripting engine into a page you can use the functionality of this module with other modules as well, you can even write a custom module yourself that can use this, combine it with calendar, xmod, user defined table faq, dnn content builder etc, you name it it can be done. Create your own interactive master detail views without page refresh without programing using modules from multiple tabs normal view detail view, all is possible
Thanks to the ASP.NET team, we now have a cool feature inASP.NET 2.0, which allows remote calls to server events whithout causing the page to post back and refresh. This is great, but we have to wait until ASP.NET 2.0 is released and we can't do anything in the meanwhile. But this feature is now available to any dnn developer.

jfoster - I think you may be in the wrong forum here... this is for posting custom modules?

There is quite an active post about AD here
