Running a web application within my existing web application - web.config errors

 Hi. I have a site set up in .net 1.1 that runs fine. A requirement came through recently to incorporate some elements by way of a third party application. I have set up a virtual directory inside my main application which points to the folder that contains the third party application. This virtual directory is also set up to run as an application. The third party application allows me to create forms. I have created a page in my main application that uses 1 user control from the third party application to display a form. I am getting the following error when trying to run the page:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

Source Error:

Line 46: "Forms", "Passport" and "None"
Line 47: -->
Line 48: <authentication mode="Forms">
Line 49: <forms name="SURVEY.ASPXFORMSAUTH" loginUrl="~/admin/login.aspx" protection="All" path="/" />
Line 50: </authentication>

Source File: C:\Projects\FormulatorNET\web.config    Line: 48

I have trawled the net for answers to this problem but everything seems to say the same thing... "set your virtual directory up as a web application". I have tried deleting the virtual directory and setting it up again but this problem still occurs. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can go about fixing this problem? I am developing using Visual Studio.Net 2003, .Net 1.1 and C#.

Many thanks.

[PATCH lib/Net/Config.pm, MANIFEST, t/lib/Mock/Socket.pm, lib/Net/Config.t] Add Tests for Net::Config
Here's a test suite for Net::Config. In the process of writing this, I've fixed an apparent bug that prevented single values from becoming array references when necessary. I think it's right, but perhaps Graham should weigh in on this. In the process, with some advice from perl-qa, I've added a mock object so the test could control the output of Socket::inet_ntoa() and Socket::inet_aton(). t/lib/Mock/ seemed like as good a place as any. I'm happy to rework this patch if it personally offends anyone whose opinion matters. :) -- c --- lib/Net/~Config.pm S...

Application to Application
Hi,  Curious on what different solutions there are for one application that is closing down to contact another application. I have the closing down applicaton sending something to the database and for the other application to monitor the database records, but I think that is a horrible solution. Another idea would be when the closing down application sends a message to the database for the database to then respond by sending a message to the other application, but that means the database would have to know where the other application is.  If possible, the security issue mak...
