HELP me to access client application

I`ve got a problem. I participate in an intranet web site development. So, I have to write some code which should do the following. When a user finishes a test at the site the default client mail application should be opened, then automatically it creates a new message and the new message should contain a predefined subject and body with the report of the test. The body is not plain but HTML marked text. Moreover, the text to be as the body of the new mail is large. That`s why I cant do this with mailto link.

I`ve learned somwhere that I can access client COM components via network. How can I do this? For example, create a new instance of Outlook (it is the default mail application at all the computers in the intranet I work for) and then pass it a command to create a new message and take the body from a string variable where I can store the HTML code. Is it really feasible? If it is, please tell me how to do this.

If somebody knows how to do this in PHP it could be even much better.

Maxim, Moscow.

hi!

i think it would be better if you use ASP.NET (or PHP) to send emails.
try to use SmtpClient and MailMessage classes (mail() function in PHP).

First of all, thanks for help.

Next.... I used mail function in PHP and it worked but at times when the message wasn`t very large. I really succeed in opening default mail application at the client with predefined mailbody.
I know that it would be much more simple to send email by tools which are built in PHP or ASP.NET but opening email program at the client is necessary aspect which comes from my chief. He says that user should have an opportunity to change the mail message before sending. I offered him to set a form at the page which would have such text fields, checkboxes etc.. as From, To, Subject, Priority... And he answered it is the wrost solution for the problem. So I`ve got to find a way to open email client.

I know of no JavaScript command that would do that because of security restrictions, or whatever. The only way that I could think of would be to create an ActiveX object loaded on each client to do it.
